Im thinking of unloading my Les Paul Classic and building my dream Super Strat. Ive spent quite a bit of time looking over the Warmoth site and their stuff seems pretty stellar. Any of you guys have experience with them?

Are the finishes as good as the pictures represent?

How much fret dressing is neccesary to get the neck ready to play from right out of the box?

Im looking at an Alder body with a quilt maple top rear routed for H/S/S and a Floyd. The neck will be birdseye maple with a maple fingerboard.

might as well a try and do a search on here, it's been covered a few times?

Love mine. The only reason I built one, was because I couldn't find everything I wanted in a manufacturers line (wood, pickup config, pickups, switching, style, etc.) If someone builds what you're looking for, I'd go that route. You should plan on keeping it, 'cause they're not cheap to build (mine was $1K), and resale is pittiful. Anyway, top notch parts that fit together great. Mine did need a dressing to play like I want my guitars to feel. Wasn't bad, but if it doesn't feel right, you won't play it. Got my parts in 6-8 weeks, assembled it in a couple of hours. I didn't have it dressed until about a month or two later. Even used it at a couple of gigs before I had it done. Built it in March '04, and it's getting better as it ages.

Admittedly, I am talking from my ass I have not ordered any on my own just yet, but from the searching I have done most people will recomend USACG (US Custom Guitars) or MusiKraft for better products (higher quality wood and consistent tone).

USACG stuff is all fantastic from what I have seen. I have seen some inconsistencies in warmoth stuff, thy don't seem to pay much attention to wood quality either.

FWIW,

I had a parts-o-caster built last year and used a Warmoth neck. The quality is fantastic in my opinion. Fret work is perfect, really comfortable neck, nice finish, and a great price. Had no issues whatsoever and I still love it.

If you go to the E-Store in the Warmoth site, you can buy many completed necks that are ready to play like I did.

Musikraft necks >>> Warmoth necks, imo.
The bodies are about the same quality.

Thanks for the replys...the more I think about it, the more Im not ready to part with my Les Paul...Ive sold more than one piece of gear that I regretted selling and I think this would be another one of those.

The guys at USACG came from warmoth. That is who I would check out. There cool over there, the warmoth guys are a little dry. Both do good work.
