So, I got inspired by Nick's dad's Warmoth Tele, and got the itch to put some "Gretsch style" TV Jones pickups in my Warmoth Tele.

Had my luthier reroute the guitar for TV Jones Filtertron pickups. Used the same TV Jones pickups that Brian Setzer uses in his guitar, and man...they f-in sound great!!! Not great pictures, as I don't have my good camera at the moment to take pics with, but you get the idea.

Enjoy!

Sweet!

I've been thinking about a 2 'bucker tele for some time now, and those Filtertrons might just be the ticket! They fit really well with that blue, figured maple top!
Generally, I'm not that fond of "furniture" grade tops on guitars, but damn!

Thanks for sharing!

T-style guitars with Filtertrons can sound great. But PLEASE put a Bigsby on it!!!

Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFPJLEw8Pck (gorehound of the deadcats playing a Sparrow with TV Jones filtertron) for a cool tele-filtertron rockabilly tone - and one that's surprisingly warm for a notoriously bright pickup on a notoriously bright guitar shape.

After having 3 different guitars w/ Bigsby's...I'm done w/ them. This is like one of 3 electric guitars out of the 10 electrics I own that I have that are fixed bridge. The other 7 are 6 wilkinson bridge guitars and 1 floyd.

Plus I do a lot of bending, that causes the tune to go out of whack... So...sorry man! No bigsby here :)

Sick. Are the Filtertrons a little smaller than a regular bucker? If so, is that a special bridge and who made it?

Yes they are a unique size. That bridge plate looks like a TV Jones "TV Savalas" to me. Or you could use a standard tele humbucker size and use TV Jones' bucker-sized filtertrons (I think they are called "TV'Trons") which fit in any standard humbucker mount.

It wasn't until I had local guru Paul Iverson set up my Gretsch that I got very good tuning stability. Having the nut cut well for the guage of strings (I think this was the main improvement), using very few winds (or using locking tuners . . ), and putting a bit of graphite powder on the nut when I change strings seem to do the trick for me. Severe bending (I do a lot of double stop bends, etc., with 11s) is no problem at all, and I need to do some extreme downward bends for it to go out of tune at all - last time I measured it with a tuner, if I go all the way down to where the handle touches the body of the guitar (pickguard removed) and release, the G and B, which are the worst culprits, are less than 5cents sharp, and either pulling up on the Bigsby or bending the strings puts them right back on 'green'. Using the Bigsby for 'vibrato' effect doesn't affect the tuning at all. So, although YMMV and every guitar and player is different, with proper set-up I don't find Bigsbys to be an inherent barrier to tuning stability. My Gretsch generally has better tuning stability than my LPs, though not sure why the LP can't stay in tune . . .

Very Nice. That is such a Beautiful piece of art.

I have been looking for the right Tele for me. Not sure if I want a custom paint job like a flag or something, a flame top like yours or sea foam green. Guess I should get 2 now with standard pick ups and a set of humbuckers.

For me it's not the tuning stability that was my problem. I just like a wilkinson 2-point trem better. I also HATE restringing a bigsby tremelo. I much prefer a string through the block on a wilkinson, and using locking tuners, which allows me to restring a guitar in 3-4 minutes.

Bigsby's are cool...but not realistic or wanted for me. I do a lot of "chicken pickin" and country bends on my tele, that w/ a bigsby would jump out of tune like on my wilkinson trems. The "vibrato" effects w/ a bigsby are really good though! I just much prefer a smaller whammy bar, and easier string changing of non-bigsby guitars.

Yes filtertrons are a little smaller. TV Jones sells that bridge. I bought it and the route template directly from them. I got the pickguard from WD Music w/ the TV Jones route for the bridge filtertron.
