Yo Cats...

As you may recall, I am looking at getting a straight up, authentic, uber-twanger in the realest of real ways straight from the manufacture themselves, Fender. I've been working on getting a Fender Custom Shop Telecaster - swamp ash body, high grade maple neck, simple original style pups, and the old ashtray bridge. I am on the mission for the real deal of twangerness and spank

My journey has taken me around the block and back... So this brought me to Warmoth. I'm looking at these set ups, picking my wood, my finish, my neck, my hardware, etc. and the price cannot be beat. Are these the real deal? Anyone here have experience with an entire custom spec'd Warmoth guitar?? I mean shit, how wrong can these be so long as the wood is ace?? :dunno:

Lemme know - I'm majorly intrigued to say the least.

Thanks,
Mo

o ya there building me a guitar at half the cost of warmoth 100 percent my specs grade a quality. no joke give them a chance.

I owned a Warmoth Tele a couple of years back that was pretty wild. Not an authentic '50s repro per se but it had it's own thing going on. It could do the vintage tones no problem, and hell, I used mine in the rock bands I was in at the time without issue. Ultimately I sold it because I can't deal with Bigsby tremolos.

I built a non-traditional Tele using a handful of Warmoth parts.

Basically, it's all genuine Fender with the exception of:
*Warmoth Tele body (black korina back with straight grain swamp ash on top, black body binding on top edge, tummy contour);
*Gotoh Tele bridge (from Warmoth); and
*Various electrical components (sourced from Warmoth).

The neck, neck plate and locking tuners are all genuine Fender, purchased new from "The Stratosphere" on eBay.

Pickups are Seymour humbuckers: a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck.

Honestly? It's one of the nicest looking, playing and sounding guitars I own, and I own A LOT of guitars.

I would disregard comments about Warmoth being crap. That's absolute nonsense. They make great necks and bodies with nice finishes and decent binding work for the money. They also sell a ton of parts from various manufacturers at reasonable prices.

I recommend them. Although, I recommend you go the route I went; namely, buy a genuine Fender neck and get the body from Warmoth!

I've had problems with Warmoth built necks.
I recommend USA Custom Guitars, Tommy Rosamond.

Yeah check out "The Stratosphere" on Evil Bay. you can get a Fender body loaded and a Fender neck. I have been looking at these for a while, just waiting for the right body to jump out at me :D

I ordered a So-Cal style guitar from Musikraft and was very impressed.

Agree to disagree. I've had spectacular customer service from everyone I've encountered, especially Rob Rounds, the sales manager. He's bent over backwards to get some custom stuff done for me. And I'd put my Warmoth's up against Fenders costing 2-3X as much.

The BIGGEST factor on how well your Warmoth/USACG/Brand X guitar will play is the final setup. By this I mean fret job, fret dress, nut job, setup, etc. Any monkey can bolt a neck onto a body and wire up some pickups.

Interesting comments thus far... Soooooooooo, I am reading that it's best to get the neck from Fender, but the rest can be purchased through Warmoth. What's the dealio with their neck? QC just a touch off? And as for the alternative routes, sure, I'll just them out - Stratosphere and bestguitarpartsdotcom and the like. I just wanted to get a sense as to how things are rolling with a "some assembly required" approach to building my own and saying 'screw the name tag price'.

Keep 'em coming....

I built a Warmoth Swamp Ash/Maple, La Cabronita with TV Jones Powertrons last year and it's an absolute beast. Your resale will suck but that's about it.

I dunno, I got my Teles from,,,,Fender   I think Fender has put out some awesome Teles in the past 12 months with the Tele-Bration thing goin on, snag one of those! I have no exp with Warmoth, but if you want Tele at a little more of a budget(not your style at all) I bought one of the American Specials, awesome feel, great neck, vintage bridge and I think it was around 800 new, you wont like the pups(I dont think) so just replace those and you are good to go!

Just get an American standard tele. You want a tele right? That's what fender is known for. Everything else is just a copy. :D

You get any other brand you will wonder about the Fender Tele mojo  And wonder about comparing it to a fender tele.
