Can I get close to his sound without getting a Soldano or Diaz amp? I'm really digging that creamy tone of his and wanted to get cheaply close to it.

I know most will think no way, but the way I dial my 2C+ I can get a similar vibe to my old SLO. Since the MK 2C+ and the SLO have amazing power sections maybe try boosting your 2C+ with an upper mid boost pedal, while dialing back the amps gain? I do that with an OD1X and it reminds me of my old SLO. Not exact but the vibe is there. Very warm sounding. And my GEQ is still scooped.....if you still have your 2C+.....

I have the SLO, a detailed pic of his settings and I still can't get it lol! ;)

I will try this with my 2C+. I also read that Haynes dials back the volume and tone control of his Les Paul's to get that creamy distorted breakup.

First, you MUST have a Les Paul Standard. I'm afraid you'll also need an SLO.

He used and Boogie back in the old Allman days and a Plexi in the more modern Allman days. While his tone is always great, I really dig the Mule stuff with the SLO.

A good Marshall, a Les Paul with PAF style pickups, and great touch will get you in the ball park.

First two are achievable. Not sure about the third requirement. :D

Getting his particular sound is far more about the player than the gear...he sounds like himself even when he sits in on someone else's rig.

I can dial it in to a certain degree with a 5150 and a les paul. Just flip on the neck pick up and roll the tone all the way off (woman tone).

Just what Warren Haynes tone is it that is in question. I recently saw a Warren Haynes solo project concert on AXS. His tone was nothing to write home about in that one. Muddy neck pup tones on that 335 he used. :dunno:

His early tone was my favorite.
Try the SLO on the clean channel, crunch mode, a boost on the style of the klon for some of the leads, and watch closely his playing... he uses his fingers a lot, going back and forth with the pick.
His tone up to "Live... with a little help from our friends" was just amazing!

On the cheap. Gibson LP with Burstbuckers (any low output PAF style pup in the 7.8- 8.4K ballpark with A2 magnets should get you there), Vintage 30 equipped cabinet, JTM or plexi style amp, Klon style pedal (not a TS pedal) or at times that tone from that link could be had by a TS derived pedal with slightly less of a mid hump perhaps. As the poster before stated, he goes between finger picking and using a pick. Ride the volume control for different shades of breakup and pup selector switch. That tone sounded better than the one I referred to earlier but absent his fingers and picking technique is not really out of the ordinary to accomplish. Looks like he was using a combo amp 2x11 of some sorts that was difficult to make out from the video. Maybe someone else might ID it if it's of importance to you. Soft touch, partial palm muting of notes, occasional digging in when in neck position. Good luck.

I'll bet those 11" speakers are the secret! ;)
