Weber Speaker in my Mod50 1x12 combo and 1x12 sealed ext cab

This is another "F BOMB" thread. So I got my 75watt pre-rola Weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell speakers yesterday. I got the time to put them in today. I tried a few different speakers in each the 1x12 combo and 1x12 extension cab (made to look like an egnater cab by Mojotone but be fully sealed instead of ported like the Eggie cab). I tried a K100 in each, and didn't like it all in either. Tried the CL80 and G12T75 combo in them, and was happy but not "super excited". That combo sounds great in a 2x12 where the speakers can really blend together.

So I threw the Blue Dog in the 1x12 combo to just "try it out" there first. My jaw hit the floor. And this is a speaker that isn't even broken in yet!!! It has a warmth and clarity to it that I haven't heard in just ONE SPEAKER, ever! Kinda has the vibe of the T75 and CL80 combo in one speaker, with more of a vintage flare. It's a little smoother, and a little juicier. And this is still from a stiff non-broken in speaker. Definitely has a cool "voxyish" vibe, with more balls and clarity!

I then threw in the Silver Bell in the 1x12 mojotone sealed extension cabinet. The silver bell definitely has that typical british sound, with more low end, punch, growl, and warmth. Similar characteristics that the Blue Dog had, but a bit less in the mid-range and a little more bite on the top end. Killer speaker!!!

Then, I tried both, and i definitely had a "brown moment" in my pants! Those two speakers blended sooooo well together. Tried the SL, SL2, and EG5 in there, and holy crap, it was amazing tone! I never have had tone come out of the Mod50 1x12 combo that was that thick and juicy!!!! It's definitely a very thick, dense, tone with the right amount of bite and growl. Together they are provide a wall of sound I've yet to match with anything else for that vintage vibe I wanted.

I did a comparison of the CL80 / G12T75 loaded Eggie Tourmaster and the Mod50 1x12 combo / extension cab with the Webers, and I really like the contrast of both. The Tourmaster 2x12 has a more modern vibe, and is a killer setup for rock, hard rock, metal and such. The Mod50 combo / extension cab would be great for classic rock, blues, rock, hard rock but not good for metal. I wanted to setup my Mod50 1x12 combo to be more of that "vintage rock and bluesy flair" and it did that. I also wanted it be able to do my hard rock stuff if I wanted for practice or something, and it does that well too.

I am definitely set with the Tourmaster 2x12 w/ G12T75 and CL80, and the Mod50 w/ Webers. I highly recommend both setups. I did a speaker cab comparison yesterday with a friend, and the Tourmaster 2x12 smoked my Marshall Mode 4 4x12 w/ CL80s and G12T75s and Ear Candy Buzzbomb w/ K100s and also w/ CL80s and G12T75s. The Ear Candy was a close 2nd though. It's a killer cab, but I'm just so impressed with the Tourmaster!!!

So, my Marshall Mode 4 4x12, Ear Candy Buzzbomb are both going up for sale! I think I am going to grab another Eggie Tourmaster 2x12 and try K100s in it.

I told you the Blue Dog was badass!

It totally is man! You should get a Silver Bell to go with your Blue Dog. The combination is superb!!!! Thanks a lot man for posting that thread about the Weber Blue Dog. I am definitely glad I bought those speakers. The 75 watters w/ pre-rola are awesome!!!!

Did you try that combo in the TM cab Eric, since I do have two and let me tell you this, you suck and I'm never gonna open another thread of yours!!!!  I totally agree with your review on the TMs,tite cab and they mature when broken in

Eric, if you had to pick one speaker for the closed back Eggie 112 (and Mod 50 of course), which would you choose? Blue Dog or Silver Bell?

Blues, classic/hard rock.

Are you talking the oversized ported cab?

AHAHHAHAHA sorry man :). I have not tried that combo in the TM cab. I honestly don't want to even try it, since that cab is such a BITCH to change speakers in. Plus, I'm extremely happy with my setup the way it is in that cabinet. I got the Weber's in the Mod50 1x12 Combo / 1x12 extension cab because I wanted a totally different tone. And man, it is a killer tone! I couldn't imagine a 4x12 w/ Blue Dogs / Silver Bells in an X pattern. That would totally be bitchin! I will have to say, I've never had such a "brown sound" with anything else but these speakers. The SL / SL2 really came alive with them. Had a "greenback flair" without the speaker breakup that I don't care for. Both having 75 watt speakers and having the pre-rola treatment really helped. I highly recommend Ted's speakers.

I will try them sometime in a TM cab. I am going to be ordering another one of them sometime in the future. I'm either gonna setup a Blue Dog / Silver Bell cab or a K100 cab. Hell, for the price of those cabs, I might even buy two of them and have a CL80 / G12T75 setup, a Blue Dog / Silver Bell cab, and a K100 cab. If I don't like the K100s in there, then I'll ditch them and only 2 the first two. But I am pretty sure I will like the K100s in there :).

Hey Eric, What would you recommend for the Egnater 1x12 oversized cab, there's a CL80 in there now? Thanks

I'd probably stick with the CL80. I had trouble finding speakers for "me" for that cabinet. I liked G12T75s in there too. I didn't like a V30, G12-65, or a K100. The V30 did "fart out", the G12-65 did too, and the K100 had too much low end for that cabinet. It's a difficult cabinet to find the "right" speaker for. Since it does push more low end because of the port than most cabinets, you will need to have a speaker that can push the low end without farting out. I know I sold Casey my 1x12 with a Ear Candy Green Machine in there, and that was a killer combination. That, the T75, and the CL80 were my favorites in that speaker cab. The Green Machine really opened up and sounded super full with cranked, as does the CL80 and T75.

Blue Dog is what I'd pick. I ended up keeping that in my Mod50 1x12 combo. I just liked it better. It has a great full response across the frequency spectrum. The 75 watters are probably not as bright as what Gene has, but I really dig them. I tried all my modules with it, and w/ the pre-rola treatment I didn't get any cone cry. They do need a good amount of breaking in still, but damn, even unbroken in, they sound killer. They are definitely staying in my Mod50 1x12 combo / 1x12 extension cab. I like the Blue Dogs better. But I'm going to wait a bit and see how the silver bell breaks in, because it does really add and mix well w/ the Blue Dog. If I were playing live and I could only pick one to mic though, it would be the Blue Dog. But that's nothing against the Silver Bells, they rock!

Haven't played the 1x12 Rebel cab yet. I really like the Elite 80s they have in them. I have one of them in my Grendel Dead Room to record with. Great great speaker!! Awesome man. You're gonna love your Mod50! Great amp! I love mine. That and my M4 :)

Seriously, I've been singing Ted's praises for years, and the Blue Dog is especially awesome. Did you get the alnico or the ceramic? Most people crap for the alnico, but I actually like the ceramic better, because while the alnico will break up earlier (which might be what some are looking for), I like my speakers with uber-clarity, and the ceramic has that in spades. Great stuff either way!

I got the ceramic ones too. I prefer ceramic magnets to alnico myself for the same reasons you mentioned. I love the speakers so far. They rock.
