This is another "F BOMB" thread. So I got my 75watt pre-rola Weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell speakers yesterday. I got the time to put them in today. I tried a few different speakers in each the 1x12 combo and 1x12 extension cab (made to look like an egnater cab by Mojotone but be fully sealed instead of ported like the Eggie cab). I tried a K100 in each, and didn't like it all in either. Tried the CL80 and G12T75 combo in them, and was happy but not "super excited". That combo sounds great in a 2x12 where the speakers can really blend together.
So I threw the Blue Dog in the 1x12 combo to just "try it out" there first. My jaw hit the floor. And this is a speaker that isn't even broken in yet!!! It has a warmth and clarity to it that I haven't heard in just ONE SPEAKER, ever! Kinda has the vibe of the T75 and CL80 combo in one speaker, with more of a vintage flare. It's a little smoother, and a little juicier. And this is still from a stiff non-broken in speaker. Definitely has a cool "voxyish" vibe, with more balls and clarity!
I then threw in the Silver Bell in the 1x12 mojotone sealed extension cabinet. The silver bell definitely has that typical british sound, with more low end, punch, growl, and warmth. Similar characteristics that the Blue Dog had, but a bit less in the mid-range and a little more bite on the top end. Killer speaker!!!
Then, I tried both, and i definitely had a "brown moment" in my pants! Those two speakers blended sooooo well together. Tried the SL, SL2, and EG5 in there, and holy crap, it was amazing tone! I never have had tone come out of the Mod50 1x12 combo that was that thick and juicy!!!! It's definitely a very thick, dense, tone with the right amount of bite and growl. Together they are provide a wall of sound I've yet to match with anything else for that vintage vibe I wanted.
I did a comparison of the CL80 / G12T75 loaded Eggie Tourmaster and the Mod50 1x12 combo / extension cab with the Webers, and I really like the contrast of both. The Tourmaster 2x12 has a more modern vibe, and is a killer setup for rock, hard rock, metal and such. The Mod50 combo / extension cab would be great for classic rock, blues, rock, hard rock but not good for metal. I wanted to setup my Mod50 1x12 combo to be more of that "vintage rock and bluesy flair" and it did that. I also wanted it be able to do my hard rock stuff if I wanted for practice or something, and it does that well too.
I am definitely set with the Tourmaster 2x12 w/ G12T75 and CL80, and the Mod50 w/ Webers. I highly recommend both setups. I did a speaker cab comparison yesterday with a friend, and the Tourmaster 2x12 smoked my Marshall Mode 4 4x12 w/ CL80s and G12T75s and Ear Candy Buzzbomb w/ K100s and also w/ CL80s and G12T75s. The Ear Candy was a close 2nd though. It's a killer cab, but I'm just so impressed with the Tourmaster!!!
So, my Marshall Mode 4 4x12, Ear Candy Buzzbomb are both going up for sale! I think I am going to grab another Eggie Tourmaster 2x12 and try K100s in it.
