Looks like I've got one of the RT2/50s with backwards MIDI assignment DIP switches. I can't assign M4 channels to the RT2/50 channels.

I really don't want to mess with this. :gethim:

C'mon, somebody tell me I've done something stupid, like forget to connect a MIDI cable.

Do all the screws on top of that RT2/50 have to come off?

I had the same problem. Yes you will have to take all of the screws off of the cover to gain access. The dip switches are kind of hidden but they are there in the area next to the MIDI input. Just take the switches and flip all of them the other direction and you should be good to go. Hope this helps

Or set your controller to CH16 or OMNI.
My controller in this case is the M4.....I'll try setting the DIP switches on the M4 to Ch16.

Not working.

I tried setting the M4's DIP switches to CH16, with no result, and to OMNI, also with no result.

Is it necessary to have a controller in the chain, in front of the M4, to be sending program change information? The RT2/50's manual doesn't make any reference to that as a requirement.

Well, I have a MIDI foot controller on the way. I'll see if that's a required part of the chain. I had assumed that the M4 was transmitting MIDI program change information when the M4 channels are switched manually at the front panel, and that the RT2/50 would pick them up. I guess the M4 is just a pass-through?

Or, I am just revealing what a total MIDI idiot I am.

Are you saying you don't have a MIDI controller/pedal of some sort? The M4 does not transmit MIDI information. It only receives it from an external controller (MIDI IN) and passes it through (MIDI THRU) to the next unit. You will need to have some sort of MIDI pedal to control your setup.

That explains it, then.

I'll have a controller here on Wednesday.

Every BBS needs a Village Midiot. I nominate myself. Any seconds? :D

And thanks, Bruce. I can't imagine any other situation in life where the Big Kahuna would be as responsive as you are on this board.

Seconded! ;) ;)

I agree! Can you imagine one of us calling Mesa Boogie and getting Randall Smith on the phone? Yeah right!

OK, so I received my controller (I went for a Rocktron MidiMate) and it turns out that my RT2/50 is indeed one of the ones with backwards DIP switches.

So I set the M4 for CH16, set the MidiMate to transmit Set 1 of the program changes on Ch16, and all is good.

Thanks, you guys, for your responses. :)
