Aaaaand, I'm disappointed. The first song they dropped grew on me pretty quick, and I love it. The rest? I found it a snooze fest. With growls.. Totally disappointed..

Ok so got a chance to start listen and I agree with Napalm in that I am disappointed, although song 2 with Ian Anderson's spoken word is really good ..... for me they have never been the same since they actually hired a keyboard player to be in the band...imo since they added a full time keys play they have relied on the keys to create the atmosphere instead of the guitars and drums (and vocals of course) ... might stop listening now and put on Still Life, just a masterpiece

this. i remember being a youngster in 1999 trying to learn songs off of Still Life. Just looking at those tabs, and the way he writes riffs, had me convinced of their brilliance.
It’s not even fair how good they are. I get why some dislike the direction they’ve taken, but imo they transcend genre.
I just appreciate what they do with an open mind and go along for the ride.

I tried and tried. Cannot get into them AT ALL.

My first real exposure was seeing them live back in like 2003.

I don't think I ever could've grown to appreciate them like I have if it weren't for that. I was so blown away by how they performed, it gave me the patience to really dive into their catalog back then.

Opeth live is a spiritual experience.

Yeah. The ultimate downside to having a keyboard player in your band is that they want to play keys all the time. It's one thing to write parts tastefully and hire someone to play them live. It's a different thing to have them involved in the writing process. Keyboard players want to put keys all over everything.

i was pretty big into Opeth in the 00's, like a lot of bands though i just kind of stopped paying attention for no particular reason, looks i missed the last few of their albums lol, i gotta get caught up

I hate to say it, but... agreed. Still Life will be in my collection until I can't hear anymore.

All the older albums were so good, like they could do no wrong. I dont dig the proggy direction they took. These guitars sound a little weak by comparison....maybe they are just getting old ha

i just listened... this ones gonna take a few listens to fully digest. the production is sick, lead tones are incredible, there are definitely some epic parts. the drums seem a little too "busy" to me throughout, and they keys in spots are a bit much. i liked the last song the most. will listen again
