Hello RT,

I just can't believe how much age has changed my tastes. This is said becase I could NEVER ever have imagined that I would do something like this. Here we are, and the change makes me happy. Going from always being afraid to do anything to doing dumb stuff with resolve. Ah, quite the change.

I have played so many Gibsons and only found 2-3 ovber the years that just jived with me. I found this repaired LP in my friend's shop for a price I couldn't pass up a couple years ago. I played it and fell in love with it before the repair news and price. When I was younger, I never would have really been interested in a LP, let alone one that had been repaired (Broken headstock repair). Very solid repair.

Anyway,

The guitar has a cool look but somehting about the black neck just wasn't doing it for me. After thinking about it for a good long while...I finally did it. I removed the finish off of the neck after staying up late the other night. Late night gear decisions are normally a bad decision, but I am actually glad I pushed forward with this. I was going to clean it up fully, but I actually kinda like the rough look and leaving the color the same on the back of the headstock as the body. Adds to the mojo. I scraped it, sanded with a couple grits, a swipe with the steel wool and then a bit of oil. Feels so damn smooth and I love the look and color. Very inspiring.

I will go back and smooth other just a couple areas where I feel like I can see marks from scraping, or hell, could have been just the way the neck was before they painted it Either way, I will smooth out an area or two and call it finished. Even rough like it is, I really enjoy it. You can't see it in this pic, but I finish checked the back of the body and headstock front/back. Came out really, really nice. Not all crazy and unnatural like what I have seen around. Anyway, that's my little excursion. Young me would have thought this old guy was crazy.
