What amp would complement a Splawn Quickrod?

Im saving up for someday to get a third amp and I'd like to mix it up for my bands live shows. I currently run my Promod with my Quickrod and it sounds great! but i'd like to mix it up with another one at some point and hear it out. (not a 3 head setup.. just 2)

So any suggestions? I would like the amp to be a fairly clear/cutting amp. I don't play with gobs of gain so thats not going to be an issue. The basic sound i go for is a hardrock type of tone.

I was thinkin one of these... but im open for other suggestions!

Mesa Boogie Mark III/IV
Mesa Dual Recto (2 channel)
5150/5150II
Marshall JMP(no mods or anything)

I use greenback speakers, and a gibson LP w/ Suhr ALdrich pu's.

thanks yall!

oo and i was also thinkin maybe a VHT Deliivernce or Pitbull might go well along with a QR ?

i'm mainly a rhythm player, and use quite a bit of chords that require clarity from top string to bottom.

You may not like this suggestion, but none of the above listed amps. Try instead either an old Ampeg V-2 or V-4. The V-2 is a 50 watter, and you may like the tone better than the V-4. Barring that, a Hylight era Hiwatt is a good solid amp, but the prices are about the same as JMP Marshalls, if not a little bit more. Both of these amps will give you a lot of clarity.

An Uberschall comes to mind. :scared:

+1. I've played the Uber a couple times and never really liked how it sounded to me. Then I heard a 2 amp rig (not in a band setting, more like an ampfest) with that and a Voodoo VReck (Trainwreck clone) - sounded absolutely incredible!!! The Uber's bottom end really filled out the VReck's smooth mids.

Since the Splawns are great (the best) for overdrive sounds but not so great for cleans, I'd go with a simple amp that gets the best clean tone possible while still complimenting the Splawn.

I know this is going to be way outside what most Rig Talk guys would suggest, but I'd look at a higher powered Dr Z or Divided by 13. Either of those would give you the best clean to warm overdrive tones possible and the Splawn would handle everything from mild OD up to high gain.

Use a head switcher and one cabinet like the Radial Tonebone. It would be the ultimate rig IMO. I'm considering using my Dr Z Maz 38 with my Quickrod in a similar setup.

So I narrowed it down to either a Roadster or Mark IV. Tried out the VHT's & Soldanos. Bogner is a little out of my price range.. ; (

Something about how the Mesa's feel when i play them just clicked right for me. Especially the Roadster, I was in love with CH3/Vintage Mode with the gain a little below noon. Sounded so thick and chords shined through nicely!

I'm leaning towards a Roadster... cause i think when combining a splawn with the roadster it will be a bigger contrast in tone than the Mark IV. (I think)

Anyone want to chime in on why a Mesa Boogie Mark series amp might complement a Splawn better than a Recto voiced Mesa amp?

probably a bunch of amps that would sound good with the Quickrod, but maybe only a handfull that would stand out from it when blasting really loud.

i've ran a Triple Rec. together with a Quickrod and they sounded great together, the Recto filled out the low end better and the QR got the low mids covered. but when a friend would come over and play one while i played the other, we'd have a hard time hearing each other. too much going on at similar frequencies? we'd either be standing by the other guys amp trying to hear what they were doing, or right up by our own trying hear our own playing. EDIT: just now thought of this, but at the time i was running them together, the Recto had EL-34's. so guess with 6L6's it would have even more lowend and brighter top, with less mids.

so guess my 2 cents would be, that you could maybe look for amps with more low end or brighter amps, but really should mostly be looking for an amp that you like how it feels/sounds etc. on it's own merits. maybe you want sustaining leads, or maybe having the low watt class A thing would be cool for a nice practice amp?

ideal thing would be to take your QR in and play it with some amps and see what you think. probably ain't many places gonna have a Roadster and a Mark though?

might as well check out a Stiletto if you can, may not be for everyone, but they'll defenantly stand out from lots of amps.
