What are some lesser known pickup manufacturers?

I just got this old Squier Strat last night and after some initial setup work, it's playing pretty nicely. I still have some tweaking to do, but I know it'll need some electronics. The 5 way is real scratchy, the pots are a little scratchy, and anytime I put it on a setting using the neck pickup, it gets really muffled sounding. This guitar has lived a somewhat hard life in relation to electronics.

Anywho, in order to try out some other pickups and not go with the classic easy choice of Duncans or DiMarzios, what are some other pickup manufacturers that are more affordable because they aren't having to cover the high costs of marketing and endorsement campaigns? I have some Tonerider pickups in my Tele and LOVE the way that guitar sounds and I'm leaning towards putting a set in this Strat. The guitar has the SSS setup in it now but it does have routing to put in humbuckers, so I'm considering one in the bridge but still 2 single coils in the neck and middle so I can still get that Strat sound. I don't think I want to have purchased a Strat just to give up the reason I purchased it when I upgrade the electronics.

Sorry not applicable, I didn’t read. Honestly for bang for buck my go to is DiMarzio, those are pretty damn cheap

scott number 1...(tone nerd), but I have always been infatuated with Lace.....and I've had a couple decent kent armstrongs down through the years.

Jeff @ HighOrder has done some nice custom pickups for me, over the years.

Recently he wound a clone of an Ibanez Super 70 for my USA Dean ML

Excellent dude!

For SSH setups Suhr pickups are hard to beat

Pariah pickups are awesome.

As said before Tonenerd. These are in my explorer and will go into my next guitar.

Monty's pickups are another brand I'm planning on trying sooner. Bill Steer has a signature set with them.

I just got a Tonenerd Whiskey and it is amazing and plan on getting more pickups from Scott. It sounds as good as my Motor City 2nd Degree Blackbelts but even more articulate. He has so many options on pickups but also different winds.

Mojotone Hot Quiet Coils P-90 pickups. The Wilkinson Soapstack P-90/Dallas Special/Prizefighter humbucker on my Fret King Corona GW guitar.

I would check out Manlius pickups

Mick never lets me down
I used his neck pickups. I hate neck pickup quack tone and he was able to make me something without it. This is back in 2016… I never looked back.

BG

They absolutely fuck and are pretty affordable for handmade pickups (at least they were last time I got some; haven't checked his prices lately)

His Hellabucker and Darkbucker are some of my favorite pisscups ever

Tone Nerd. Scott’s pickups sound better than MCPs, and I like MCPs. Cheaper too.
