I have a Gibson V I love but can't seem to find the right pickup for. I didn't like the stock BB 3 (it's the current Antique model). I tried a Suhr SSV which was too dark and woof, and currently have a Gibson 60s Bucker with is okay. I don't play the heavier stuff like most of you -- rock, blues, harder rock. I could put a 500T which I don't think is versatile enough. Perhaps the same with a Duncan Distortion. I'd like to go from Schenker to Scorpions to early Metallica with it.

Same boat. I have one of the new 70’s Gibson V’s. I bet I’ve had 20 sets in this thing since I’ve got it. I’ve pretty much hated every medium and high output bridge. Many of those were high dollar boutiques. Decided to go low output and things are getting MUCH better. Right now it has an Antiquity neck and a custom shop Duncan bridge I created…….8.34k with full strength, roughcast A2. No problem covering up to late 80’s metal

This particular V already has a pissed off timbre and high output ceramics just sounded harsh/grating/messy.

I alway recommend Dimarzio PAF pros. Sweet honkey mids and enough push for any kind of metal

My Edwards Schenker came with custom 5 ( SH-5 ) in the bridge and a 59 in the neck. It satisfies me across the board. I have not been happy with my explorer though. The aldrich isn't doing it there for me.

I’ve always wanted a Flying V with P90s for some reason but I’ve never seen one

I have an Antiquity in the neck and I love it there. Works perfectly. I wish I could find something that works equally well in the bridge.

I was wondering about a Duncan 59. They can get pretty crunchy

Anderson H3, H2+,H3+. Ha e those in all my Dean V, Z and ML. They are awesome.

If you’re comfortable with removing covers and swapping magnets, then you could get the Antiquity bridge model and swap the degaussed (weakened) A2 for a full strength rough A2. Gives it more push and tightens it up a bit…….without going high output crazy. Let your amp and boost pedal do the work.

59/custom is badass. Wagner ironman also good. Mine has a wicked 8 from scottosan. Best pickup i have ever had. Will never change

I’d put a jb or a super distortion in the bridge if was me. But a ‘59 would work too for less output but prob not quite enough for metallica. I had a V for awhile with a 500t and IMO that is a much less versatile pickup than a jb or super distortion. When people say they don’t like ceramic pickups I think of the 500t. Best sounding V I played was a KV2T in early 2000s with a JB in bridge. Just fantastic but it had hot rod ghost flames which I just am not into.

I had one for several years that I put Duncan Distortions in. They were magic in that guitar. Probably one of my biggest regrets of any guitar I've ever sold. Bought it brand new in 2010, Classic white with ebony fretboard. Awesome, awesome guitar. Still kills me I sold it.
