I'm about to purchase a used orange or15 and I don't know what cabinet to get... I'm looking at 1x12's and 2x12's since I live in an apartment in which I can play quite loud but have space restrictions. What would you guys suggest? The orange cabs are quite expensive, are there any other brands that offer good alternatives? thanks!

Ugh, Orange cabs are the shizznit man! You will be hard pressed to find something that will work better for you. An Orange 1x12 is $379 at GC, and even Avatar cabs are $279 + $45 shipping for a total of $324. Heck I would personally scrounge the other $55, get the Orange, and be done with it. The only way to really save some money, and still have a box with an ok speaker in it, is to find something used. 1x12 cabs don't seem to be super plentiful though, but I could be wrong. The whole crazy black friday nonsense is getting ready to start at GC, so maybe you could get the Orange 1x12 at 15% off or something? That would get the price down to $322.

Probably want a Vintage 30 speaker set. Pretty sure Orange amps are voiced for V30s.

I'd personally go with a 2x12.

Rear loaded cabs will sound more open. Front loaded, generally, sound tighter & punchy. Open back sound a bit brighter, closed back sound darker.

Zilla make decent cabs either loaded or unloaded. They're made in the UK but I've seen quite a few stateside.

I find cabs, almost more than the guitar, have a huge affect on tone. Even playing the same speakers in two cabs of arguably similar construction can sound quite different. It's a bit of a can of worms. I'll admit that I didn't have the opportunity to demo a bunch of cabs when I bought mine. Logistically, I wanted a 2x12. I knew my amp was voiced for V30s. I knew Orange made great cabs & I found a looked-after used Orange cab at a decent price. They're heavy mind.

Thanks for the answer! The orange cabs look nice but is a 1x12 a good option for this amp (only 15W but pretty loud!)? Won't it lose much "full-ness" (if you see what i mean!)compared to multi-speaker cabinets?

Yeah the orange cabs have V30's. I have closed back mesa rectifier 2x12 which has a really tight sound but unfortunately it's back in Europe (couldn't be bothered to bring to US when i moved!!)

The speaker will handle the power fine, but you won't have quite as much air moving and such, but man it's a 15 watt amp. It's not going to sound like a 100 watt Mesa or Diezel no matter what cab you play it through. I would just get the 1x12 and push the crap out of that speaker, and make it earn it's living. Alot of folks will tell you that the reason for cranking an amp up is to work and push the tubes more. While this is true, it's not the entire equation. IMO part of the deal is to get the speakers moving really good. Though a 2x12 would be nice in case you ever got a bigger amp.

Now that i think about it you're probably right, for the usage I will have of this amp a 2x12 might an overkill, and the orange 2x12's will probably cost me more than the amp itself!!

No, not at all.

If you're going to purchase a OR15, then I would highly recommend acquiring a Orange PPC112 Guitar Speaker Cabinet (60 Watts, 1x12") for this amplifier. You will be very satisfied, plus you will have the speaker cabinet that was engineered specifically for this amplifier.

I love the tone of the early and late modern Orange amp/cab configuration.

Just because Page used Orange amps back in the late 60s to early 70s doesn't mean that they completely blow! AAMOF, they sound very good.

@Ventura I would but it's a little pricey for me! i'm getting the amp for 450$ so 1000$ for a 15W setup is a bit steep.

@BlackSabbath thanks for the help, i'll just go for this one. I'm seeing some on ebay for around 300$
