What does a refret cost?

Depends on the going rate in your area...but ballpark here (L.A.) is:
$200-$450 depending on:
Type of fingerboard (maple fingerboard often costs more)
Type of frets (Stainless steel often costs more than nickel)
Bound vs unbound neck

ratter knows a dude in the Maryland area(I think) that will refret and PLEK for like $300

I'm getting one done now on a Gibson and it will probably run me 450-500 dollars. Unfortunately I can't find anyone else who's work I trust. Plus the end result will be stellar as I have had two refrets by the same people, both excellent.

I just had one done on a guitar with an ebony fretboard and binding and it ran $250 with a new nut cut too. I was pleasantly surprised.

The guy who does mine charges between $100 - $200, depending on the time/work involved. My Les Pauls were $200, due to the binding. An old Kramer was $125.

In the Philadelphia area Ron Reggiero (215-732-9727) is the man. I think he around $5 a fret last time I checked. Also a certified Martin repair shop. He rebuilt my D-18 for me when I first got it as a basket case years ago. Said all of that as a plug for Ron but also to encourage you to go to someone who come highly recommended and not just for a low cost. I have had guys totally ruin guitars who seemed like good people with a normal shop etc. Get a recommendation from someone who's been around for a while and knows whats up or you could get screwed. I would trust Ron with any repair job from frets to cracked necks etc.

I had my EVH music man done last year. It ran me about $300 for the full refret and also setup/intonation.

Look into having it plek'd also... I know guys who can do a terrific job by hand, but the plek will outdo a human on their best day IMHO.

Really? Where did you get it done? I had mine done at Music Man last year and it was only $130 for a full refret and setup.

He IS great, he's done 2 of my guitars and they play incredibly well now. Very nice guy. Takes a few months though,he's way busy

Hey Jeff, Gutierrez will do one for ya as well, I have yet to see better work personally. If you want his info, p.m. me.

Are we talking about a full refret, or a fret dressing? I had a dressing/setup/intonation done on my LP about a year ago. Best move I have made with it.

I believe the average is about $300. I personally would have Bruce Nelson from Anderson do the job.

Anyone know someone in Seattle area? I just bought a V that needs a refret and I can't afford two refrets with the guy who has my main guitar now for it's refret.

did you use the same size frets as the originals? Where'd you get them if you did? EBMM website only refers to them as high profile
