Speakers mounted to the backside of the baffle and rear access to the speakers/wiring is Rear-loaded. This accounts for about 95% of speaker cabinets. Speakers mounted on the front side of the baffle and generally a sealed back cab is labeled as Front-loaded. The grill is removable for access to the speakers/wiring.

Difference? Heaps....Front loaded cabs are going to have much more stage presence than rear loaded. With the speaker mounted in front of the baffle, more sound is going to be projected forward with more articulation.

Better? That's a matter of opinion. Speaker choice and EQ of your amp will have a larger impact.

As a general over simplification, front loaded cabs tend to be tighter than rear loaded.

There so many variables that you really need to look at specific combinations that you are interested in, some speakers work well in say front loaded, but less well in rear.

Yo ED!!! Hey Buddy....

Difference between FL and RL - LOTS! Aside from the tightness, the projection and ability to get a lot of 3D colour is also a factor with FL versus RL. There's a whole science behind it, but the small amount of baffle that is now in front of the cabinet itself with a FL mount allows for greater range both sonically and physically (or the vibrating speaker). The sound is fuller, less "point and shoot", and really kicks, especially with the new 4x12 Diezel is pumping out of Germany. I've racked my melon trying to figure out HOW a box with four holes in it can be any different than any other box... I've given up, all I can say is that they truly are amazing cabinets and the new FL configuration is mindblowing when it comes to the G12K100 loaded 4x12's.
