I have been winnowing my amp collection down, and plan to end up with 4 amps and two cabs. I'm only really interested in high gain channel switchers.

I have an Uberschall Rev Blue, Mesa Roadster, and Rivera Knucklehead II. So I have one slot left to fill. I know that many of you are going to suggest a Marshall of some kind, but I've had them all, and I'm done with Marshalls.

I've been thinking of a 5150/6505/6534. I have a 5150 III, but it's on the chopping block for two reasons. It sounds great, but it's way too big and bothers me esthetically, and the power and standby switches on the back is fucking retarded.

Also on my radar, an SLO! The problem is, I rarely ever see them for sale used around here, and it would have to be a BAD SLO because I need a decent loop. I had a Hot Rod 100 Plus that I would still have if not for the loop.

Then there's the Ecstasy. I hear so many people say they prefer the ecstasy to the Uber, which kinda blows my mind because I fucking love my Uber, but I've never played an Ecstasy.

The Egnater Armageddon intrigues me too. I rarely see them for sale, but it seems like it would be right up my alley. I've never played one of these. The only thing that worries me, is that no one talks about them. Ever.

There's an ENGL Invader up for sale nearby. I've never played one. On paper it seems like a great amp, but no one ever really talks about ENGL stuff either. I also hear they are a mess to repair and not necessarily particularly reliable?

Other amps that come to mind: Egnater Vengeance, Randall Thrasher, Randall Satan, Randall RD100, Peavey Invective, Hughes and Kettner Tri-amp.

What else should be on my radar?

Stay away from the Randall RD100. Garbage. Only amp I HAD to use an eq in the loop to get it to sound good.

I'd suggest the PRS MT 100. In the ballpark of a boosted F Triple but different. Grab one and return if you don't dig it. It has great thump, is on the darker side but I max the presence and it's bright enough with good clarity. Plus the clean is equal to my 76 Twin.
It's a very impressive amp, under 2K and it sounds as good as amps going for 4K.

Ah yes, that one has recently been put on my list. I won't buy new though. I'm sure they will start appearing on the used market pretty soon.

Do you know how to dial them in? That's the important thing. You just don't know what you're missing man.

I've only ever played a Mark II combo that I had. Nothing made sense. I'd get it dialed in to where it sounded almost good, and then if I so much as looked at one of the knobs too hard, it was all fucked up again. I don't need that kind of bullshit. I like amps that have controls that make sense! :ROFLMAO:

I would definitely suggest a wizard . They are beasts . Especially with el34s . I know people love them with kt88s but after trying the different tube models I just feel Rick does something extra special for me with el34s . Something harmonicly rich the others done have and it’s still punchier than fuck .

Diezel VH4? And I wouldn’t write off the Marks just yet. I also had a bias against them (mainly aesthetics to be honest) but now I have a Mark IVB it’s really changed my mind on them.

It was only a matter of time before Wizard came up.

Trust me, I'd love to try one. It's just a matter of the price. The SLO and Ecstasy are right at the limit of what I'm willing to pay for an amp. Wizards are beyond that limit. I've never paid more than $1350 for an amp so far.

I will freely admit that the aesthetics put them out of the running for me too.

I know, I'm shallow. :ROFLMAO:

What you need is the H&K Black Spirit amp! Funny enough I saw one for sale in the classified section! 😉😄

Oh so like a 30 watt ? O thought you meant 100 watt. Lot of people say liking wizards is trendy on here but they are special fr

If you get a chance you may wanna try one of their KT88 models. I normally also much prefer EL34’s and not usually crazy about KT88’s, but the Hell Razor KT150 I tried recently smoked the MTL EL34 and MC EL34 I had in the past. It was punchier, bigger and no less harmonically rich or hollow to me. It just had more of everything I like about wizards

No no, definitely a 100 watt. I don't play no wussy amps! :ROFLMAO:

I've seen used SLOs and used Ecstasys for around $3k. The cheapest Wizard I've seen for sale (at least around here) was $4500.

My hell razor will have el34 . I’ve tried others just the el34 highs and colorful tone is killer . 2 months till I get it .bit ya I’ve tried the others it’s just wasn’t for , Rick truly does something special. I know people are starting to hate on wizard like it’s three but for me wizards destroy the 2++ and other grail amps . I love all marks but for me I got to be honest

Well, once you learn how each control affects the sound it becomes easy to dial in. You should try a Mark IV (that's what I got), it's probably the hardest to dial in of all the Mark series amps, lots of room for error on that amp, but I've got the hang of it now 8 years later, lol. I can get any sound I want out of it now, that's the cool thing about the IV. I had a Mark III before that and I found that amp only really had two sounds, clean and a hard rock/metal/lead tone... but the IV has a much more usable range on the controls so lots of good tones to be found, just a TON of controls... too many controls for you probably. The Mark VII is a stripped down version of the Mark series, much easier to dial in.

They're great amps hey (the Mark IVb)? Diezel's I have yet to try... can't find them where I come from.
