Hey guys,
I hit up Google and didn't turn up too much... Anyone have any idea? I think I remember reading it in an article YEARS ago, and all my old guitar mags are packed at my folks.

Any help would be great appreciated.

Cool, I thought I heard a bit of Mesa Mark Series in there somewhere... Sounds awesome.

Yeah they always have real good tone. I love the song Waterloo from that album.

Larry Dino... on all the IE albums

Definitely not true. Jon didn't have those back on most of the early albums, and they got stolen before they recorded The Glorious Burden. I think the only albums that are a Larry are Something Wicked, Alive In Athens, and possibly Horror Show.

don't they use engl?

No idea what they use now, but they never have before. I imagine they'll be back to using the Larry Amps whenever they get news ones built. The guy only makes like 10 amps a year.

from the man himself :
Only to inform you: Jon got his first DINO in 1993 (which you hear on Burnt Offerings, Dark Saga and Something Wicked), his second in 1998 (which you hear on ALL the newer albums including the Demons & Wizards releases), his 3-th DINO - a completely revised edition - he got in 2005 (that's btw. EXACTLY the DINO, which you all can see on the photos in the web)...

http://www.larry-amplification.de/dino939/

... and last summer he got his 4-th DINO from me, which was still more 'special tweaked' by Jon's requirements and after some consultations. And now you think, Jon has ordered this amps, to retire it?

Keep in mind, that Jon has payed all his amps! I don't make any endorsement deals and I also don't give away anything for half the price, or so! There were some inquiries in the past – and when I'd have done it different, then today there would be some more famed bands equipped with Dino amps Wink

So no Larry amps on iced earth, from 91 and Night of the stormrider from 92...

When was that from? I'm almost 100% sure he didn't use a Larry on The Glorious Burden. I know he got them stolen, because that's the only reason he was using those other amps.

that's from Larry himself.

I'm not sure if GB was recorded with it, but Jon has more than one, and has had them for a long time... that's all I know.

From Jon himself

"I have been using amplifiers custom made for me by Larry Grohmann for about 15 years now. That is and will always be my main amp because Larry developed it for my playing style and it is by far the best amp that I've ever played, and I've played A LOT of different amps! My Larry amps and Marshall cabinets have always been my main rig for touring and recording. I did however use several different amps on both parts of the 'Something Wicked' epic because I wanted different dynamics and shades of tone to tell the story. I used a great amp for all of my lead parts called a Splawn Quick Rod. I also really enjoy amps by Divided By 13, Orange, Engl, Roccaforte, Vox, Voodoo, VHT, Trainwreck and, of course, Marshall and Fender; all of which appear on the new CDs at some point or another."

For the Glorious Burden USA tour he was using three amps, Bogner Uberschall fullstack, Marshall DSL Fullstack, Roland JC-120 3/4ths Stack. He was endorsed by ENGL for a while after the USA Glorious Burden tour but I'm not sure he used them live.

That must have been why I remember Uber and DSL.

To shed some light on your guesswork, just read, what Jon wrote me among others in an email (under another subject) just a month ago:

Hey Brother!

I will do my best to get some sound clips to you, but I think you should use some sections of Iced Earth tracks as well. It's really something to be proud of, the Larry amps have been used as the only guitar sound on every record from Burnt Offerings to The Glorious Burden and the first D&W CD (it would've been on the second D&W CD to except for the flood happened). Also, the Larry was 90% of Framing Armageddon and 99% of Part 2, there were only a few other amps used in textures on other parts. You definitely can use any that you want, there won't be any problems, that I can guarantee. I think it would be cool to have both things up on your site, but it's obviously up to you.
And now you also know the 'real' reason, why Jon was using some other amps for a while in the past. All his 3 DINO's he owned back in 2003 died in a 7 feet high flood in his 'dungeon' siller studio, as he wasn't at home for a few days.

The 'flood' happened just after the recordings for The Glorious Burdon were finished, so he had to use some other stuff on tour just after the recordings for the tours, since it took a (longer) while, before he got some new built DINO heads from me again.

Unfortunately not

The first time I met Jon was in September 1992 - here a photo from Jon in my house and with my Jackson RR I owned at that time:

And at that time the first two IE albums already have been existing.
