I bought a Mojo 4x12 and plan on using some low wattage speakers like Greenbacks or G12H30s with a DSL 50 I recently picked up. What impedance should they be?? 8 ohms? 16 ohms?

Also, the Mojo 4x12s come with the single input...How should I wire this amp? Series or Parralel and what is the difference? thanks,

-Joe

The gear page and do a search there as you will find great info about this over there. Those fuckers are crazy about there tone over there. Sorry to promote another board.

4 16 ohm speakers, in parrallel will give you a 4ohm load and 16ohm load in series/parallel. With 4 8ohm speakers your really only going to be able to get an 8 ohm load in series/parallel.

Hope this helps:

1 x 8 Ohm speaker = 8 Ohm load

Series

2 x 4 Ohm speaker = 8 Ohm load
2 x 8 Ohm speaker = 16 Ohm load
2 x 16 Ohm speaker = 32 Ohm load

Parallel

2 x 4 Ohm speaker = 2 Ohm load
2 x 8 Ohm speaker = 4 Ohm load
2 x 16 Ohm speaker = 8 Ohm load

Series / Parallel

4 x 8 Ohm speaker = 8 Ohm load
4 x 16 Ohm speaker = 16 Ohm load

Hey thanks a lot guys..

Sooo basically 16 ohm would be the best choice to run at full power??

Thanks for those diagrams too!

Now to choose between greebacks and g12h30s!

I'm gravitating towards them as well dude. I figure I can crank the DSL 50 pretty good with em.

No problem Joe, I use H-30's and love them

Cool, I'm probably gonna go with a quad of the Hellatone 30s...Cheaper and broken in. :D

Lastly, a bit off topic BUT, what do most of you guys use to bias?? The bias rite? Which bias rite do I need, the 8 pin?

That is EXACTLY what I did. I ordered 12 Hellatone G12-H30's, and am VERY VERY glad I did. Thanks to Ralph's (gainfreak's) Suggestion.

Joe E-mail zepman regarding biasing the DSL. He has the best damn sounding DSL I have ever heard.

You can e-mail him from his site:

Cool, will do! Does he have clips around?

-Joe

On his site, but IMO, they don't do the amp justice. Don't get me wrong, they sound great, but only show certain angles of what it is capable of.

Yeah, I saw those...I think they are through 75's too, which are my least fav speaker. They still sound good though.

I'm still a bit torn on speakers. A buddy told me greenbacks or g12h30s wouldn't be "metal" enough and wouldn't give me the punch of vintage 30s or governors. My whole idea was to have low wattage speakers so I can crank the amp better at home. Although I am curious about trying Eminence.

Is this, low watt punch, enough? I was using my Boogie on 1 (Conversation volume) at home recorded through an old Roland VS 880 with the H30's in my Marshall cabs.

Haha! indeed...Sounds great!

Were those the G12h30 anniversary?? The regular ol' ones? Some guys at the Metro board are raving about these "MyTone" Webers "Sten-Spec" speakers...They sound great too.

Also...I'm trying to confirm whether or not I need 16 ohm. It seems like it's what I need...Since I'll be using just one cab, with one input, it would be 16 ohms mono correct? Two 16 ohm cabs and I would use the 8 ohm outputs right?
thanks

Good ol' Hellatone Celestion G12-H30's, from Avatar.

IF you are using the Marshall style mono/stereo jack panel 16 ohms wired series/parallel will give you the ability to (When running on mono) select the L jack for 4 Ohms, the Right Jack for 16 Ohms, OR if running stereo (Left jack 8 Ohms and Right jack 8 Ohms).

If you are using a single jack then it would be up to you to decide what Impedance you preferred and choose the speaker appropriately.

Usually the speaker outs on your amp are wired in parallel, so in that case 2 16 Ohm cabs would have you with a TOTAL of an 8 Ohm load.

What no Van Halen riffs?

hehehehe.... Next time around, w/ the Peacemaker I'll do some VH stuff

Cool, thanks for the help!

I'll be using a single jack in the mojo cab...I just don't understand the difference between using 4 8ohm speakers vs 4 16ohm speakers. But, most 4x12 cabs I've come in contact with had 16 ohm speakers, so I'll probably go with those.
