What is the best modeling software/computer program?

Revalver has the most realistic amp models of the ones I've used. Amplitude has the best effects and the amp models are pretty cool if you tweak them. (a lot)

I have yet to try Guitar Rig 4.

Download the demo/trial versions and see what you like the best.

what style of music do you prefer mostly?
I like an old School Cannibal Corpse "Butchered at Birth," Pantera "Far Beyond Driven," Solid State Amp, Randall Century/ Crate GX130C, and metal zone into a clean clean channel type vibe to my rhythm sounds.

Leads, I like a screaming Mesa Mark Series or Marshall lead tones in addition to coaxing them out of the mentioned above.

Cleans; either SS or a fender super clean sound will do.

The best is Fractal audio Axe FX. As far as cheaper softer alternatives. Amplitube has always been decent. I haven't used it since V2 so I don't know how well it has improved. Revalver also is decent. Vintage amp room?

Do you have a mac or pc? There is some really great sounding free software from LePou. Only pc compatible.

Otherwise, like I said download the trial versions of Guitar Rig 4, Amplitude 3, and Revalver. That's the best way to find out what works for you. Otherwise you're going off of what someone else tells you. The demo versions all work well, but have a built-in hissing noise from time to time keeping you from using it for recording.

Also check out Axe-fx if you have the $, or the new POD HD series. Ola from the band Feared posted some metal comparison videos of the Axe and HD on here awhile back. Search for em.

Forgot about the new pod HD. Yeah, definetally consider that. Actually may be better since you won't have to deal with latency as much and can take it elsewhere, and probably sounds just as good if not better then the software listed.

I would like to know too.

I guess my major issue is to get a good guitar signal into my mac. I tried using guitar into a mixer, then audio interface, then mac, using the guitar rig demo I had so much noise! Is it normal to have that kind of noise or is it an impedance mismatch? Levels looked good.

I wonder if the GR mobile interface would get me better results. Now it comes with 8 amps and many FX and stuff.

Impedance mismatch. Try a DI box!

Ive been using amplitube 3 for a couple months now...heres a sample of my main tone in it. I like it better than my 6505 212 and my 5150 head...

Not gunna lie. Sounds good. Would have to mess around with it for a while to get it tasty though.
The demo to Revalver was fun to use, and did a pretty good job of emulating a 5150, with a host of amp minded customizations available. If you're a nerd, you can learn a bit about tube amps using it, like learning about the Civil War from a video game. At least the demo gave me that impression. Its totally a promotion for Peavey though.

True. And I have a DI and didn't even try it

That amplitube 3 preset that I used for that is my perfect tone. I wish I could get that easily from an amp lol. I am more than willing to share my presets with any one interested.

and don't forget about TH1

wait till the kid changes guitar and starts wanking

IMO if there were no sims like Vandal & TH1 then Revalver would be the one
