I have a snark that I use at home but it was almost useless on stage or at rehearsal, when it picked up vibrations from everyone else making noise. Maybe I was doing it wrong but went back to a pedal.
Snark here too. Although in a loud club gig it has a hard time with all the vibrations.
Tried the NS tuner from D'addario, and it let me down. It's too slow to track a note.
An old bass player had a Peterson Strobe clip on that was probably the best at tracking with a lot of noise, but it still struggled live. For maximum reliability, a pedal or rackmount is best.
In my opinion, clip ons are for home use and get you close enough quick. For gigs and recording I would never use one. I am a Peterson tuner fan myself.
