What kind of Bias Meter to buy?

I used a Bias Rite for a long time and recently bought a Compu-Bias. They are both good, but I like the Compu-Bias a little better.

I like the Weber BiasRite BR-4 :)

But if you own a digital multimeter and are confident enough to use it on a live amp, then just add the 1ohm resistors from the cathodes to ground on your output tube sockets. It takes minutes to bias an amp that way and only costs a few $$$ in parts.

With the compu bias could you buy an extra set of sockets for 100 watters. Hook them up to the tubes and switch to either set during biasing without risk of getting shocked?

The Compu Bias has only two inputs for the sockets. Not sure if they make a 4 input model or not. As most amps bias in quads or pairs, it suits what you need, if you know you are installing a matched quad or duet. Otherwise, you would have to change positions. Weber is not selling the Bias Rite anymore either. I happen to have one for sale with two sockets if interested. PM me. It used to be on the classifieds, but may be expired by now.

Bias probe for about $28 and a multi meter will work fine unless your an amp tech. then maybe spend the bucks on a bias rite or something like that.

Yeah but you can buy extra sockets from compu bias I was wondering if you could have them all connected then connect two at a time to make the work flow faster.

A really cheap option is to buy the octal probes from Eurotubes and they plug straight into a DMM if you are needing a budget option.

allessandro sells the analog meter very reasonable thats the one i like ,no out of calibration issues just zero the meters and its accurate

I have the Compubias and really like it. I like that it shows the plate voltage and I don't have to probe to measure it with my DMM. I have my old cheap bias probe if I need to do an amp with 4 tubes (only have 2 that have 4 6L6's).
