What power amp are you M4 users using?

Been thinking of upgrading to either an RM4 or M4 sometime in the next 6 months.

Does Egnater have a power amp?

If not how about the Randall RT2-50?

The part that appeals to me in that is the switchable 6L6/EL34 through midi.
Are there any other power amps that do that?

I may at first just get a partially loaded M4 from Egnator and just use the RM100 power section until I'm 100% sure what I want to go for.

But anyway, what power amps are you guys using?

I don't have an M4 (unfortunately), but for a little side note on the RT2-50... you can have either side use ANY kind of tube, not just 6L6 or EL34!

I really like the RT2/50.The ease of use and I've been using it 4 about 2 years and it's been rock solid, now I sure if I had a VHT I'd be pretty happy too.

VHT 2/90/2. It's been the best power amp I've ever used. So muscular...so powerful. I love it! It's what Bruce / Jeff uses to test out the M4's for a reference power amp. Probably the best power amp on the market (until Egnater makes one! :) ).

I ASSumed as much. I guess I just like the idea of being able to switch and to mix as well.

Yeah I was looking at those on VHTs website. I guess the flexiblity of switchable power tubes is what pulls me more towards the Randall.

i hear ya there. i've just never needed / wanted that ability. 6550s are it for me. I need no other power tube. And the VHT power section is soooo friggin good.

Using an RM4 with the Rt2/50. I am a happy camper. Using in stereo, so 34's on one side, 6l6's on the other. I havn't tried the VHT in comparison, but I am liking the sound I have now

When I get it I'll be pairing it with the TBR-5. Thing is a beast. I use EL34's which gives me 120w per channel. It has an input gain select, pentode/triode, and high/low power options. I can back it all the way down to 15w if needs be. It will take any power tube with a rebias.

It weighs a friggin TON though. You can still get them through Rivera for $999 which is a steal compared to the VHT.

The RT2/50 is a mystery to me. I can't understand why they sell for so cheap on the resale market. This was what ultimately led me to buying the Rivera. For a relatively new product you wouldn't figure there would be so many selling used unless there was a problem. Any RT2/50 users have any complaints?

None here either....My M4 with an EG3/4 ch B can get that mean GROWL for leads and i can pretty much nail a David Gilmour lead sound with out pedals. :D and stock 08 fender deluxe S-1 pickups.

+1
There's just something about it. It has all this headroom and yet it sounds and feels really, really good at both both low and high volumes.

Mesa Recto 2:100 w/KT77's here - definitely overkill on the wattage.

I love the VHT 2150. What a great power amp!!! Friggin heavy as hell though :). For those who don't know...the 2/90/2 was developed in the "limelight" of the 2150. It was developed as the 2150's "little brother" in terms of tone and such.

The 2150 is by far "the best" power amp I've used. But..it's weight and 4-rack spacedness caused me to go to the 2/90/2. The 2/90/2 is friggin awesome in comparison though...

VHT 2/90/2 - 9.5/10
VHT 2150 - 11/10 :)

Well, whenever my M4 arrives, I'll be using it with a VHT 2/50/2 that I got from a forum member here. It's still in the box he shipped it to me in. I do like the idea of the Randall. I believe Jeff and Bruce always have one or two on hand as well. I may get one later on just to have it. They're about $600 used.

I did own a Mesa 50/50 once and it was great. Loud and tight. You can get them for about $550 used. Great, great amp.
