hey guys i gotta replace my power tubes an i was just wondering what r the best 6l6s to put in. i play heavy shit like mudvayne, lamb of god an this is my first tube amp. the pre amp tubes have just been replaced they electo harm. all ideas welcome an im on a tight budget. thanks guys

The stock 6L6 STR 440's they've been using lately are actually pretty damn good tubes just get some Mesa's and not worry about it(yellow/red grade I think sounds the best), not exactly the cheapest but but not as expensive as some, but definitely will work with the amp and sound good.

I put rectifier matched sets of JJ 6L6GC's (I think they are 42's) from Eurotubes in mine. They're great, and I get over 2 full years out of them.

I have been running old 6CA7 in my Tremoverb for years. If you can try these. They sound better to me than anything. They are the same as the 6CA7 that Groove Tube makes. I have been meaning to try some KT-66. Anyone try these?

SED =C= and buy from DOUG.

the SED's seem to wakeup every amp i've put them in, and my Triple has had the best response to them out of any amp, it friggin loves them 6L6 or the EL-34's.

also might want to get a Tung-sol, and a JJ preamp tube while you're at it? i like the EH, but having them in all the gain stages, they can get fizzy. i run EH in V1, Tung-sol in V2, and JJ in V3.

the SED's are higher $ than most, but i've found they're lasting twice as long as others. playing a lot, i was getting 6 months on the stock Mesa tubes, been getting a year or more out of the SED.

For maximum clean headroom out of a 6L6GC type, I use a Philips 7581A in the power section. JJ 6L6GC's are pretty good. SED 6L6GC's are great. Ruby EL34B-STR's are one of the best as well once the bias is at about 25 mA per tube, which is about where the Rectos run in the Bold/Silicon Diode combination with tubes that fall within Mesa specification range.

I've tried KT66's in several Dual Rectifiers, but I don't believe they will fit in a Tremoverb because the headshell isn't tall enough. KT66's are too wide to fit through the top grille, which is how I remember loading up some 5u4g (big bottle) rectifier tubes.

What kind of 6ca7's do you have? Sylvania or GE? I had some old GE 6ca7's that I used to run in a JCM 800 2204. Talk about awesome! I had them paired up with a Soldano Hot Mod. The amp didn't sound all that great until I got my Uberkab, but I was waiting on the money for the JCM 800 then. As Bob Savage and Homer Simpson would put it, "DOH!"

TAD 6L6GC-STR or SED 6L6GC

I haven't tried the TAD 6L6GC-STR. The TAD 6L6WGC is fairly decent, but I haven't run them enough in any of the Rectifiers to make a sound judgment.

The 42's Bob Pletka sells are really great! I ran 41's and 42's in a 2000 3 Channel Triple and that amp sounded monstrous!

Where can I get some Philips 7581A's ? PM if necessary.

Sylvania- they are some of my favorite tubes. How did you like the tone of the Kt-66 in the DR.
