What solo are you working on?

I am primarily working on the outro solo to November Rain myself, but that 2nd passage where he's playing in all sorts of triplets, then into straight 16ths, then a bunch of 32nds, back to 1 or 2 16ths, then back to more 32nds, etc is frying my brain and my little fingers; though I have it up to about 62bpm note for note. Just 30 more to go...

Anywho, I'm taking a break from it to learn Angry Again's solo. What are you guys and gals working on?

I generally learn techniques or runs from solos, to use in my own shit more than learning actual solos by other bands

I find it to be a much better use of my time as far as getting better since I already have many common techniques mastered

So learning an interesting pattern like Eric Johnson's skip Fives or yngwie-isms is more important than learning cliffs of Dover or liar to me, though if you put a gun to my head sure I could probably learn either

This is my tone journey...brb going to TGP

Sails of Charon into by the Scorpions/Uli Roth. I do a vid every Friday on my Facebook page and I take requests. This was a request - fun stuff!! Gets me learning things I would never learn otherwise lol

Yeah I do this too, but at the moment Im only coming back to playing again after 8 months of not playing. I have no callouses, so G chords are blowing my mind at the moment.

Totally understandable

If you're coming back after taking a break, maybe just start out jamming on things that are comfortable?

Like find a drum track or backing track of something you already know (i don't know, highway to hell or something) and jam along to that to start out with

Don't try to pick up exactly where you left off, cause you wont be there anymore - no one would be

But give it a couple weeks and you'll get back there quickly

Last one (before Christmas) was re-learning Hear About it Later. I 'learned' it a long time ago but oh so very wrong. It's very simple but its 'how' you play it with EVH much of the time.

Yeah, of course stupid me, I tried to dive straight back into things I am no longer able to play....twas a mess...still is a mess....and its going to be a mess until, as you say Im a few weeks in.

We've all done that before man, happens to everyone

Just give yourself some time to get back in the groove and you'll be fine

It's five o'clock somewhere...
