What speakers go well with a Mod 50.?

I am selling off my old rig, to make way for my new one. I have a stack, and also a cheapy Avatar with GH30 70th and Vin 30, but that is going away as well.

I will be getting a new 2x12, probally from avatar cause they are cheap. What speakers would compliment this amp well, and it could be a mix, like V30 and classic leads etc etc.

I am going with a T/D and SL2 to begin with. I like semi gritty tones, and like the ability to use high gain as well.

Thats kewl

Vin 30's are usually a fairly safe bet, and they record well, though I think the have become so popular, its now becoming poplular to bash em.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with V30's. Everyone puts them in their cabs now, so it's just a matter of looking for the cab thats made the best or with wood to your musical tastes

I have 2 avatar cabs 2x12 (1 closed back vintage cab, and 1 open back traditional cab) and a marshal 4x12 cab.

The closed back I use Warehouse Speakers Vintage 30 clones, and I personally (as well as Jeff, Frank, etc at Egnater) think they are the best sounding Vintage 30's we have ever heard. I personally am not largely fond of Celestion's V30's, because of the upper midrange bump that annoys my ears ;). WHS V30 clones do NOT have that :). They sound amazing!!!

In my oversized marshall 4x12 I use Celestion (pre-chinese) G12T75's which sound amazing with all modules!!! Very punchy, chimey, and growly as hell!

In my open-back 2x12 I use Warehouse Speakers Alnico Blues, which sounds friggin killer!!!

I'm a big fan of everything I have gotten from Warehouse speakers. Their Lead 80 clones sounded great if you like a darker, less aggressive tone. Me personally, I want more bite to my sound, so the Lead 80's just didn't do it for me.

Hope that helps!

I like the old Celestion G12-65. Great sounding speakers and they do pretty much anything you throw at them. Second choice is the Eminence GB12. It's a Green Back style. Classic tones with higher wattage rating, about 75 watts.

If you generally play low wattage (as do I) I have a custom Egnater 1x12 with a Heritage G12H in it, and it's absolutely spectacular sounding!

This thread is perfect timing... I was just turned on to Warehouse Speakers and was considering purchasing some of the Alnico Blues... I have an Avatar 2x12 open back with a Hellatone 30 & 60 and was going to order another blank cab and buy the Alnico Blues from warehouse speakers.

Are you running both 2x12's out of the Mod50 at the same time? I was worried about the power limitations of the Alnico Blues with the Mod50 if I ran it alone.

thanks,
fred

The alnico blues rock!!! What I do, is just run the cab in series (30 watts), and use the low power mode of the mod 50. Doing that gives me the assurance that I won't blow the speakers ;). I really love the sound of the Alnico Blues. They are very smooth, yet still very punchy and chimey. All the modules sound great through them!! I've had the Hellatone 60 also. I'd have to say that the WHS Vintage 30 clones sound better than the Avatar Hellatone 60's (which was the first V30 I've really ever liked). The WHS V30's sound even better because they have a better, smoother EQ curve through the mid-range (mainly in the upper mid-range) and have a more balanced response.

I'd highly recommend both the Alnico Blues and the V30's from WHS.

Eric,
Thanks for the info... Looks like I might be ordering an empty Avatar cab, the Alnico Blues *and* a pair of the Vintage 30's for my original cab...
