What tubes are do you have in V1 slot in MOD 50/100?

Just curious because I know this tube can have a big impact on overall tone and feel.
I have a MOD 100 and an RM100. Eggie has a JAN 5751 tube in V1 and fx loop. Randall has stock Sovteks. For shizz and giggles I swapped them and there was a marked difference in the overall sound. The Sovtek is more aggressive sounding. the Jan is smoother and maybe not as hot gain wise.
What are you guys running in V1 of your heads and have you tried anything different??

The Jan 5751 is not a high gain 12ax7..it is between a 12at7 and a 12ax7. It has like 20 % less gain than a 12ax7. Yes your findings are correct and you betcha it sounds different cause you gained it down with the Jan.

If you want to really gain up your shizz maybe a Shuguang 9th gen "Silver Dragon" 12ax7 in that slot with bring the heat! Im assuming MOD 50s generally ship with Sovteks in this slot. Jeff, correct me if I am wrong.

I will tell you I am really digging the lower gain tube in the MOD 100. I like the way it smooths out the the gainier modules like the EG5 and SL++ but it they still sound aggressive if you want them too. I think it's a great tube for that amp.

Jeff, what is the stock tube you guys use?

My M4 (from Nov 07) shipped with Sovtek 12AX7WA in both chassis positions. Just swapped them out for a couple of GT 12AX7s I had lying around, but thinking of trying a JAN 5751 and JJECC803 there.
