I'm looking to replace my stock tubes. I know this has been discussed here before, but its been awhile. Any suggestions?

When I bought mine it came with a set of mullards El34 and I thought it sounded great. Downside...when it blew it took part of the amp with it...I got it used so I don't know if it just wasn't biased right, but man did it sound great.

Otherwise I'd just had the 5881 in there. I'd like to try out El34s again, but need to do some research first to avoid the previous fiasco.

I actually really like the 5881's that came in it from Egnater. They just fit the sound of the amp (imagine that). Right now I've got some Tung Sol 6550's, and they sound great too. Lots of headroom, very even, overall a very nice fit for the Mod50.

I've been running KT77 in my mod 50 for a while and I like the results. Similar feel and sound as EL34 but also a little different. Hopefully more reliable than current El34s. That being said, the best overall tube for amp is the 5881. Works well with all the modules and is very dependable. I've also found that the TS 5881 is a tight sounding tube in this amp while the Sovtek 5881 is softer sounding--more like and EL34 tube. FWIW.

I've got a set of JJ 6V6's in my Mod 50. They sound great and help keep the level down, I play it at home. The only other tube I've tried were the 5881's that came with, they sounded great too, but I really like the JJ's in it.

I've put a lot of different things in there, but in my opinion nothing beats the Tung Sol 5881. Still the best I've heard and many owners in the past have said the same. Thing is you might hear it different though and power tubes are not all that expensive, so try a few out and see.
