What was your first car or truck and how long did it last?

I ended up with a 66 Chevelle Malibu that has a SS hood. It was pretty solid with two quarter size rust spots in the front fenders . $250 got me into this beeUtiful car.

So what if it was only a 6 popper with a loose main bearing? ... nothing that Motor Honey can't fix.

So what if the rear ring and pinion had 1/4" of slop in it?

So what if when I finally had enough money to fill it up all the way with gas, the tank fell out crossing some rail road tracks and I had to drain it all out and throw it in the trunk?

It was a beautiful car, paid off and all mine!!!

Just because it was a 6 cylinder doesn't mean it couldn't do a burn out... thank's to the 3 on the tree manual tranny.

I drove it through the winter and then found an awesome 68 Nova with only 40,000 miles for only $120 and it had a floor shift 3 speed!

My first car was a 1975 Camaro. Originally an automatic, previous owner converted it to a 4-speed, which was a slop fest. I replaced the shifter with a Hurst, then after about a year I killed the rear end gears and replaced them with a set of 3:08s from a 78 Firebird. At the time I did a lot of highway driving and I was a poor high school student and was looking for gears that were more aggressive than stock, but still economical. Note the Ace Frehely image on the pumpkin lol. Owned it from 1987 to 1989. Replaced it with a big block Cordoba, and never looked back.

'96 Pontiac Grand Am GT. It was faster than any of my friend's cars...but it was also a salvage title, so it had weird issues like leaking from the roof...and windows...and floors. Had it maybe two years before it died.

Very cool. The first car I ever rented was a 96 grand am, can't remember if it was a GT or not. Had to drive my then girlfriend to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and there was no way my 1979 F150 would've made it lol.

I had a white 96 Grand Am GT. Lemme guess, your dashboard plastic folded up. Thankfully I got mine for a decent price with 42k on it and it lasted me until around 170k. Had a serpentine belt fail, but other than that no major issues.

I do recall having some dash issues, now that you mention it. Mine looked good, but it was such a mess from whatever originally totalled it that I didn't think twice to get rid of it when it started having issues with the electrical system after 120k miles or so. Fun while it lasted, though. And to this day, it's the only daily driver I've ever had with an automatic transmission.
