What would the import duties costs/taxes be on a $130- $150 pedal from Japan?

Just curious.......I've read some guitars coming in duty free for some people, just wanting to know if it would be worth it so save $50-60 bucks versus buying it in the US.

Nothing under $800(including shipping). Although if you buy from a site like reverb you'll still be charged your local sales tax and may(probably not) incur fees by the carrier. That said, $1200 should have had a charge of 3% of every dollar over $800 ($12)+ fees which can be around $30-80ish(carrier, paperwork, did it come in to a port by sea), usually. HTS codes determine the actual percentage and a guitar pedal that is over $800 would be charged as an electronic and not a musical instrument, which I think is around 6%. There is also a difference between whether or not it comes with a battery. Anyways, you'll be fine.

I've bought so many LPs, maybe 8 by now...and a Roland SD3000, 2 70s GE 10 pedals...I've not paid a thing extra for any of them.

So basically anything under $800 is import duty/tax free. I would be buying from Ebay so I'm sure they will collect sales tax for my state as Reverb would on a US purchase.

Thanks for all the answers! I appreciate it!

I’ve bought lots of pedals, tubes, pickups, etc from Japan without paying any extra costs. It was just this one really expensive guitar I had to pay extra costs for (still worth it for that one)

I bought some graphics from Japan. Got here is 2 days not kidding. No fees.
I cant even get my pharmacy to mails scripts in the same zip code im in less than 10 days.

I remember I bought a Boss GE10 from Japan back around 2008 and it came DHL really quick, almost quicker than mailing something to the east or west coast of the US from within the US and I don't remember any extra charges at that time but I thought I would ask about recent purchases.

So I said what the hell...:2thumbsup: and bought the pedal from a Japan seller who ships Fed EX/DHL expedited shipping.

With state tax in all the total was $137.00 dollars for a brand new pedal, way cheaper than used that are on Reverb right now. Even if they charge me 10% import duty tax it will still be cheaper than a used pedal and way cheaper that a new pedal from any US sellers that I found.

I'll update you guys when it gets here and see what charges get added upon delivery.

I feel your pain. My insurance wants to do mail order, and the shit takes forever. What's funny is, they ship from Orlando, (I'm in Tampa), then go to Georgia, back to Orlando then to my local post office, and the whole ordeal takes up to 10 days... Sorry... Off-topic rant...

None. I order fishing reels from Japan all the time and I've never paid anything extra.

I told you guys I would update as the transaction progressed. The seller stated they would take up to 10 business days for handling to get it shipped. I ordered June 1, 2024 so I patiently waited, he did send me a message via Ebay that they would update when it shipped out. On June 10 I sent a message asking when they expected to ship it. It was still not 10 business day yet it was just seeing where they were at. The response was the next day with an update with a Fed Ex tracking number but the number wasn't active yet so I figured I would check back in a couple of days to see if it actually shipped because sometimes sellers issue a number but then it sits in limbo not active for a few days.

Well.... I got a notice yesterday from Ebay saying expected delivery June 14, 2024. I figured this was wrong and the date was set from the original purchase date so I thought well maybe next week, still that would be fast no big deal.....................I was in my garage and I hear a truck coming up the lane and it was Fed Ex, I thought no way it got here in three days.......

I can't get shit to the state next door to me in three days USPS priority mail........................

YES..... it got here in 3 days maybe 4 from when the seller notified me of shipment.....:worship:

The driver didn't need a signature and there were no customs or duty taxes he just handed me the package. I got the pedal for exactly what I paid on the Ebay checkout and saved $100 bucks in the process.

I don't know exactly when it shipped I only know when he notified me. All's well that ends well I am the new owner of a new Maxon ST9Pro+ OD pedal and it is really excellent, you metal guys need to try one out. It sounds killer into my Marshall 2203 and it's really different to my standard Maxon OD808 which I loved as well but the ST9pro+ really gives you that extra mid kerrang bit and tightens it up more and seems to have a bit more boost than a standard OD808 because there is the interplay between the tone and the mid enhance settings which is really cool.

So the ST9Pro+ lives up to the video that Killertone did, it's a great pedal, I'm glad I took the chance on it.:2thumbsup:

UPDATE 6/16/24....I looked at the pickup date on the FedEx package and it said 6/11/24 so it really did take only three days from Japan to my front door in the US.
