What's in the loop of your MOD 50?

What effects are you using and how do you have them hooked up?

I have a TC M1 in parallel is all for me but I'm interested in something else and looking for suggestions.

GMajor 2 or Rocktron Xpression.
GMajor 2 is pretty nice once you dial it in. Good fx in that box.

Egnater reverb tank in parallel loop. GCX with 2 M4's in the series loop so I have 20 channels. That might change when I get the RM100 back with the dual mod, 22 channels, or GCX w/Mod50 as a preamp,2 M4's and RM100 = 26 channels. :D :hys:

Hey muudrock,

I've been running an old Rocktron Replifex between by M4 and RT2-50. The Replifex is basically the earlier version of the Xpression. I don't have a big need for FX and so I've always been happy with the Replifex for meat and potatoes FX like delay, reverb, and chorus. But I've had it for over 12 years now and am thinking about something else.

Was wondering how you like the G Major 2 vs the Xpression? Curious if you use a mixer with it or are the A/D converters in the new G Major improved enough that there's no tone suck. One of the things I've always liked about the Replifex is that it has it's own internal mixer to preserve the analog dry signal.

Thanks for any thoughts you have on the G Major 2!

Egnater reverb in parallel and MXR Carbon Copy in the serial.

Beagle,

The Gmaj2 is a step up from the Gmaj. VS the Xpression, I would say the overall effects are better in the TC, but the Xpression sounds better out of the box due to the analog dry path in it. The TC doesn't have that. At first I was disappointed with the way the Gmaj2 sounded--it changed the tone a bit. Not bad, but i could hear it. I a/b'd the 2 in the RG16 and the Xpression sounded more "organic" ( I hate that word). I dove into the TC and found that from the factory, they have the noise gate and EQ enabled on almost all the patches and and of course, in most of the patches the FX were way too wet. I played with it for a couple hours and was able to clean it up so I really can't hear a difference between the 2 units.
Overall the FX are better in the TC. The chorus options are great and the reverbs and delays sound more natural. I'm not a big FX user either, but I do appreciate what TC put in to the Gmaj2. The TC has alot more editing options.
The pitch shifting is pretty good too--kinda like a toy ya know?

Right now I'm running it serial between the M4 and RT 250 power amp. I have a Minimix2 coming so I will try that setup as well. Unfortunately, there is always a bit of tone change anytime you add something to your signal chain. If you tweak the Gmaj2 it can sound really good.

Thanks so much...great advice! I'm glad to hear the GM2 is a step up from what I've currently got. Will be interested to hear how the Minimix works out when you get it.

Timefactor in parallel. It rawks.

+1. I tried the pitchfactor in the serial loop as well and that works fine.

TimeFactor in the parallel loop for me as well. very nice.

I also run a ISP Decimator pedal in the series loop when using my EG5 on metal gigs.

.

XPRESSION.

Easy to use and does not impact the tone of the amp from what I can hear.
I don't use the analog path because that dissable the Hush circuitry. I use the digital dry path.

That TC G Major II will sound great in the Parallel loop with kill-dry and 100% wet. I had the Roctron Xpression and agree that out of the box and in the serial loop it does not color the tone, effects are better in the TC though.

If the TC had the same analog path as the Xpression, it would be the bomb in that price range. If you set the TC up correctly though, it's as neutral as the Xpression.
I run mine in the Serial loop and have great results.

Volume Pedal in the series loop

Works great for volume effects and when your in a room where control of how loud you are is critical, but you can still swell the volume up at certain musical points and not freak anyone out.

And not sound wimpy.

Basically don't play loud during individual sound checking, then bring the volume up during emotional peaks in the performance.
And for leads....etc.

Then no one every perceives it as loud including the sound guy's.

Like church for example

Right now the only thing between my M4 and VHT is a Boss DD-20. I'd like to try the Time Factor though. Or the Nova Delay.

Lexicon MPXG2 for me. I just love those damn processors! I have 3 of them. 2 in my "bigger rig" and 1 in my mod50 rig. I also have a reverb tank in the parallel effects loop.

Glad I found out you can buy the V1.1 firmware of the G2 from Lexicon still for a whopping $10.92 shipped. That means I can make sure I have all V1.1 G2s which fixes a lot of the issues w/ V1.0. I'm using V1.0 at this point on my 3rd G2, and I can't stand it. Being able to mix dry levels in, makes all the difference in tone, and level setting of effects.

Eric
