What's the deal with Herbert not cutting live?

Can someone clear this up? Is it a real issue of lack of dial in on users part? Have a Hagen not used it live yet only band practice. Thinking going back to Herbert but live is super important !

Diezel cab v30xk100 rear load is what I use.

No problems with Herbert here. Just used it live last Saturday night. Love this amp!!

I hear people talking about the "live problems," but I never understood. All I can think of is it must be in the way people are using EQ and/or mid-cut. I feel like it kills live. Always enjoyed the tones and never have any problems myself. Pairing it with an Axe Ultra in the switchable loop for some effects, mostly to get specific sounds for some covers (not too many effects Peter, I promise :D ).

Using a full stack of Diezel FL cabs, V30's in the bottom cab and K100's in the top. Other guitar player in the band uses a Mesa Roadster and it meshes well.

Curious about what challenges you face with the Hagen that you think Herbert will solve. I LOVE my Herbert, it was my first Diezel and has been my #1 ever since. Still haven't spent enough time with my Hagen yet, my mistake I am sure. However, I am wondering about your experience with your Hagen and why you want to switch.

Never had a problem cutting through. Some people go crazy with the Mid-cut and get lost in the mix though. Gotta learn how to tweak their amps right.

I miss the tone of the Herbert. It's different than Hagen. Not that I don't like it. It's pretty great but it is not the Herbert. I've had Herbert 7 years. Had vh4 for 2 years. Hagen a year.
Eh I'm in the studio n just started missing that feel Herbert has as you play. Hagen has diff response.
All Diezels rule !

Well I don't disagree with you here

I do think Herbert is an awesome amp, love the "feel" as you said and can't imagine ever letting it go.
Tried a VH4S and an Einstein as well, kept Herbert and Hagen. As I said, Herbert has been my number #1 amp for a few years now. I have others SLO, XTC 20th, QuickRod, Mark V, and I really enjoy each of them, but Herbert is "THE" amp as far as I am concerned.

Recently have been looking into pairing Herbert with another amp (would run both midi through full stacks of Diezel cabs). Don't have a clear winner yet, but I think that would be a very sweet way to go. Can't really imagine using that type of rig live simply because of the amount of gear, weight, and set-up time. However, I would be curious to know if anyone has successfully paired Herbert up with another amp and gotten an awesome result. I have heard of VH4 pairing with others, but not much about Herbert. Like to hear some ideas and/or success stories

Hope you are enjoying a Herbert again soon Cujo!!

I have run Herbert live w a Marshall kk2203 thru 2 Diezel 4x12s at bigger shows. Pretty wicked !

Looking forward to running my Marshall JMP-1 + Mesa Strategy 500 alongside my Herbert on stage one day.

I've run my Herbert with a Triple Rec. It was a pretty sweet combo I thought. I currently run it in stereo with a VHT UL.

Any amp will have a problem cutting through when you dont dial it in right. Guitars are a mid range instrument. Go to a show and listen to them sound check the guitars. If the band sounds really great when they are all playing, the guitars will sound like shit 90% of the time when they are sound checking them. It's about achieving a tone that sounds good with everyone. It doesn't matter what so ever what the amp sounds like when you are playing by yourself. I think people get the assumption that the herbert is 180 watts and they can cut the shit out of the mids and just crank it up louder and get it to cut. Love my herbert!!!
