I'm interested in building a Strat for this set of Jalen SSS pickups I've got. I bought them for a Squire Strat I bought, which has some nice birdseye here and there, but the frets need some work (dead spots) and I don't want to buy the tools to re-press/level/dress frets and all that when I can buy a used body and neck in better shape.

The body may not be 100% necessary, but I just don't think I can bring myself to use a Chinese body when you can get a used US body for not that much. Anyone have some recommendations as to where a good place to buy used bodies/necks would be besides the obvious eBay/Reverb?

I do have a Peavey Falcon body, but those frets are so flat, like there's no meat left. Also, that Kahler bridge SUCKS. Even though I have a spare Kahler Killer tremolo, their top of the line, it'll still never hold a candle to a Floyd or Gotoh. So I think a regular Strat is more for me.

I have assembled over a dozen parts casters over the years. While I have lucked out once or twice and had a 'budget' body and neck turn into a really nice playing / nice sounding guitar, that is clearly the exception and not the rule. Like most things in life, you do tend to get what you pay for. Can't go wrong with the biggies Musikraft and Warmoth. Lots of listings for necks and bodies on eBay and Reverb - I'd say quality necks change hands around $300 and bodies around the same or more - depending on whether or not they are finished. I will say - I do have one build that I used a Butala body and neck and the quality was absolute top notch for a very reasonable price.
