What's the point of the Marshall Vintage Modern?

I see a 2466 100w near me for like $500, which seems like a deal compared to Reverb price history, but not sure I really need this amp. A few quick YouTube clips didn't sell me but at that price...

I've already got a Ceriatone JCM51 (Plexi + JCM800, then I had Super Bass switches modded in) so I've got those classic Marshalls covered.

I'm assuming this thing is similar to a JTM given the KT66s but just not really sure if that's true circuit wise. But honestly I think the Astoria Custom sounds way cooler for a KT66 Marshall (except it goes for like $2800 these days).

I've also got the modded Marshall thing covered with my Skeleton Key and Hellion, so don't need yet another high gain Marshall.

Will this thing really give me something new/unique?

I certainly didn't need one, but wanted something under the radar modded by Shea. That was the ONLY reason I got a Vintage Modern. Very glad I did, as it is totally different than my Langner style 800 and 2203KK. So I understand why you wouldn't need one as you already have some badass R/T member mods in your arsenal. But it's hard to pass up an amp at $500 that you could not worry about fucking with or loaning it to a friend.

I didn't think it was close to a JVM :dunno:

Played it several times and I thought it was some what of one trick pony but had tone for days

Jason/Headfirst has a mod that brings it to 1959 specs. I want to get one eventually and do this.

Vintage Modern is basically exactly what it says on the tin. Two channels, low and high gain. Low gain is like a JTM. High gain has a fourth preamp tube and is more like a hot-rodded Plexi. Both channels are designed for old-school dynamics and touch response. It has a couple extra tone controls and a mid boost.

Slash was using them for a while.

The overall build quality of the VM amps is pretty good.
The low gain channel is fantastic. The high gain tones suck donkey balls.
But seriously....for $500, you're getting a good quality chassis, transformers and a headshell plus all the other bits, which is way less than you'd pay for those separately.
Buy the damn thing and mod the hell out of it until it sounds like you want.
You can make these sound pretty damn good actually, it just takes a little work.
