There are three amps im really gas'in for at the moment, one of them beng a mod 50, the other two bein a mark v and a rockerverb 50. My buddy has a rockerverb 50 so my plan is to get a used mod 50 and mark v, compare them to the rockerverb, and then keep whichever i like best (id sell both and buy a rockerverb if i liked it best). So my question is, which module should i get to really get the best taste of how great egnater's stuff is? i was thinking of getting an eg5 and cod. Thanks for the help

Wow a very difficult question and I only own 4. Right now it's the COD. It was EG5 for a long time.

EG5 is one of the most unique heavy tones I've come across. Like a SLO but with that Eggy bark. It has a tight low end and a signature snarl with the Bright engaged. I love it with P90's.

COD is very unique. Cleans up well and is loud as hell. Sounds great in most applications. Makes me play a little differently which I like.

For clean, it's hard to beat the T/D because it covers so much ground and for crunch and lead, the SL2 is very versatile. It's so versatile that most of the more exotic modules like the Cantrell, BE/HBE , etc are based off of it. In a pinch, an outboard EQ could be used to tweak the SL2 into other sounds.

VX, SL, and EG5 in revolving order (thus far).

I am into the medium gain stuff, but the EG5 is perfect for when I go high gain. Very Soldano-y.

Last night I had the strat in the notch (bridge/mid) on VX B at about noon gain and it was smokin!!!

Well, that's the beauty of the Egnater modular line.....You can be playing a VX and EG5, then tomorrow, decide you want an EG4 tone and a tweed...you buy a module, instead of trading your whole amp...With the 5 modules I have, I can play anything from jazz, blues, classic rock, high gain rock to some serious metal...from 1 amp....and these sounds are amazing tones, better than some of the originals they were based on...It's a remarkable system...Having been the previous owner/player of many boutique amps, the Egnater/Randall line of modular tube amps is truly in a class by itself.....Randall has 20 modules now to choose from, and Egnater has 10......there you have it!!

For me it's the EG3/4 and EG5. The EG3/4 is just plain beautiful, smooth aggressive tones. The EG5 is just great for high gain stuff.

VX and SL2 are the ones I am blown away by everytime I plug into them, though T/D, BMan, MHG, and COD all get honorable mention (they are all amazing IMHO, just a matter of tone preferences). I've yet to play a module that I didn't think is great for what it does - and I dislike the majority of amps and other gear I plug into, so for me the Egnater modules have been a godsend . . .

I can't really decide what my favorite module is. I have SL, COD, Erect, EG5 and SL2X and theyre all great - I just choose which one that suits my needs best for different occasions. For heavy stuff I really like the Erect (I´ve been playing Mesa Dual Recto for many years as my main amp so I'm really in to that kind of sound). For cleaner tones I'm in to the COD right now, but the SL sure is great too... I just got the SL2X so I haven't really gotten to know this module yet - who knows, it might be a new favorite.

Tough question, but I'm going to say

EG5, COD, SL2X

in revolving order

It's just a mood thing, but the mood has been SLX2,Xman,EG5 and COD and of course by mood so order changes daily :D GREAT FUCKING AMPS :rawk:

EG3/4, no question. The runners up are SL, SL2x, SL2 and BE (not in order).

How can you choose. ALL :D Its like picking your favorite kid, you cant (not suppose to,lol) and its not right.

For High Gain - EG5
For mid-gain stuff - BMAN
For Clean - Twin

EG3/4
VX

I could live on those 2 alone.

After that,
SL2X
COD
EG5

I'd have to say VX, with the COD and EG5 following very closely. I love how chimey the VX can be, and I also love how it "grows hair" when you crank the B side.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Its gonna be a tough choice but it sounds like i cant go wrong with a COD and EG5

Search for "stonerverb" (I think... it's one of Anthony's mods) over at the MTS forum. If you like the rockerverb, the "Stonerverb" gets REALLY close to that vibe. I know absolutely zip about the mk V (I assume you are talking about the gain comparisons) so I don't know which module (Egnater/Randall/custom mod) would get you there. There are several talented module modders around who can probably get you really close to a sound that you might really like on the mk v.

This is the genius of MTS...

EG3/4 is favorite and EG5 is least favorite. I couldn't get the gain past 11:00 on the EG5 before it became a mess. Love the 3/4 though.
