I am questioning Rick's secrecy here. Realize, that I am no businessman, but it seems the way to sell more stuff in advance of a new release would be to advertise it. All the secrecy, as a prototype that is finished and going into production sort of pisses me off, especially as the owner of a factory Wizard. Rick designs and assembles a high quality product and I wouldn't question him delivering on it. But, sight unseen and sound unheard, it isn't that fucking great to drop 50% of 5K on a deposit with a one-man outfit and an open-ended delivery. What's he going to do if Angus calls and decides to do 5 or 6 outdoor gigs...drop everything? I just went through one of those with "he who should not be named" and never again.
Taking the middle man out and going factory direct is a bold move too, especially from the standpoint of the consumer. But, if I have a problem with a 5K amp, and he is on the road, baby-sitting the Brothers Young, who would I turn to? Its not like I have a choice of amp techs down the street. For me, and others as well, it is a $400 one way airfare for a 50lb box. With all the Canadian customs crap too, I suggested to Rick to move the company across the border as this is where 95% of his public business comes from. It would save him money without having to pass it on to the consumer. The reply can't be published on a public website.
Still looking forward to hearing it and everyone's impressions though. And, don't get me wrong about Rick and Wizard. He did upgrade my MC for free and paid return shipping. I have not had any issues with him or the company, but find his ways a little.....odd. And, dealing straight with the factory has its good points and probably would have its bad. He would really need to turn on the charm as a factory direct rep! The amp is great, just haven't had the time to put into pushing it.
My main concern is what if he doesn't get 50 commitments on the MTL and what does my non-refundable deposit go toward? Would we all get the old MTL's or what? His answer was more defensive than directed to my question. And, I wasn't questioning his integrity. But, that's all 2 month old crap. I've had enough drama for several lifetimes with Cameron and will not enter into that sort of frustration again.
Rick's alright by me though. However, some of my friends here have been kicked to the curb and that is a little disturbing. That's between them though and not me. I think I will leave the "Soup Nazi" to his amps though until I hear a clip or two !!!
