I recently figured out that cables make a huge diffrence in your sound. I am currently using planet wave. Peter what brand/model do you think works best with your amps? I saw the Peter Stapfer video where talks about the Cordial cables but they are hard to come by in the states. I was wondering if there are any other brands that work well to give one that sanctioned Diezel sound. Does anybody have any recomendations? I feel silly owning a VH4 and subjecting it to cables that aren't complementary .

I like Mogami with Neutrik connectors, also like George L's which sounded pretty much identical to Mogami, but did not like their connectors & the way cable felt. I can give you one hint, stay away from very cheap cables & monster guitar & monster bass cables & you should be fine.

I use VOVOX from Switzerland and I am very, very satisfied.

Just buy some quality cable with Neutrik or Switchcraft connectors or make your own from those parts and be done with it. Personally I don't see any reason to spend 70-100€ for a 4.5 meter cable. When talking about quality cables, I can't find any tonal differences between them. Crap cables vs good cables yes, but not good cables vs good cables. The real differences are IMO in the connector quality (not a big fan of the molded Planet Waves connectors), durability, handling noise (a good cable has none) and how flexible the cable is.

At the moment my pedalboard and rig is wired with a bunch of different cables. Klotz La Grange for guitar->pedalboard cable, Cordial for patch cables and a 1m Schultz cable from last pedal to amp. The cables have been mostly chosen by quality vs price.

Planet Waves sound ok but I found they failed a lot and have shit connectors. Like others have said Mogami or Canare with Neutrik or Switchcraft plugs are the industry standard and very reliable. My favorite sounding though is the Evidence Audio.

This is a timely post as i just wrote Peter Stapfer for his recommendations after seeing those videos too! I couldn't make out what he said myself.

I agree with earlier poster about the biggest difference being between good and bad but also do notice sonic differences b/w the various "good" cables too.

I am currently using EA Lyric HGs for guitar and Siren for speakers but am not in love with the Lyrics stiffness, and would like to see if there's something out there a bit less harsh.

thanks for the responses :) Which type of cordial would be recomended? I was on their site and their are a bunch.

I've actually been curious about these cables myself but I think as somebody has already mentioned, being in the states makes them a bit hard to come by. Anyone know a good place to order from?

Peter mentioned the "CGK ROAD 75". The only place I've found those from are the Cordial site which as far as I can tell, they don't deal with the public. And also what tools and ends would need to be purchased to put ends on?

Thanks!

The guy in the sales/development apartment was a student in my workshop.
I will try to get his email address.

i've been using monster cables since i've owned my vh4. i use george L's when i need a custom lenths (loops, pedal boards, etc.), but i've always used monster for guitar-->pedals-->amp and amp-->speaker cabs...

what's the problem with monster cables? i've always been under the impression that they are fairly decent. should i switch?

Go to my website
http://www.dizero.com/geartest.html

Scroll down you'll see a comparison. That's just DI guitar, you can hear the difference yourself (or maybe you won't hear :D ), of course it gets a lot more obvious when you run it through your amplifier.

Hope it helps.

Like Steve D. I'm using Vovox cables on anything (thats worth it) ;). They cost you a dime more but if you havent tried them you wouldnt believe what a difference they can make.

I tried other cables and IMHO theres not so much difference between cheap cables and guality branded cables as between the latter and Vovox. Monster cables, at least in germany are too expensive I think for what they achieve. Planet Waves is a fair deal for the price but to me nothing comes close to Vovox. (I havent tried all the high quality brand cables though, so I dont know if they are THE best, but at least give em a try)

thanks again nbarts. nice site...

the mogami with neutrick sounds good. the conquest seems to be the clearest. the differences are so subtle. maybe i'll pick up a mogami and a/b it with my monsters.

i also use monster for amp-->speaker connections. maybe i should test other speaker cables as well. ;)

Nothing at all, unless you see spending more down to earth prices on cabling as a liability. --Monster Cable is some of the most over priced stuff out there.

Yes, overpriced and overrated don't believe the hype. To be perfectly honest with you, I've used a Monster Cable, and the only real differance that I've noticed between a Monster Cable and a generic Belden cable, (Whirlwind,Rapco, etc.) was the price. If I had long cable runs and lots of effects I would upgrade to Mogami or Canare, whichever was cheaper in bulk and make my own. --Other than that, really expensive guitar cables are like really expensive stereo cables. They really don't do much more for your sound, but they do provide a decent living to those selling them.

Beldens are fine.
I've been using some Klotz guitar cables lately, model was called "LaGrange" or something, got it in bulk and made my own with Neutrik connectors - sounds good. Have some PlanetWaves, Sommers, even Proel around, as well. There's relatively minor difference in the sound, Klotz being better than the others, though.
