Which Diezel will make a better Sibling to the Einstein?

OK, new proud owner of an Einstein....and in just a day and half of ownership, I am sold on the Diezel sound. I have a few other amps I plan on selling and consolidate to just three main amps:

1. Bogner Shiva
2. Diezel Einstein
3. Deizel "substitute VH4 or Herbert" here.

Amps 1 and 2 will alternate duties as I have not yet decided which one I like more (I could see these alternating roles from time to time).

Now I have a Swithcblade GL (small 6 space rack) with an Eventide Eclipse and a few pedals...so I naturally want to finally put to full use the midi capabilities...of this rig with a full midi head...and the Diezels are just the ticket -- Love the hell out of this Einstein.

So my question is, which of the two midi Diezels will make the better sibiling? VH4 or Herbert?

A great clean channel is of utmost importance. So that would lean me towards the Herbert.....but I have heard great cleans out of the VH4 as well. To be honest, I am a bit apprehensive of all the power (150 watts!) in the Herbert. I can't imagine ever needing that much juice.

I don't play Heavy Medal of any type. Love to listen to it, but not play it (odd eh? ). My genres are: R&B, Jazz, Classic Rock, 80s hard Rock, Blues (Hendrix, SRV, Mayer......types)

O.k. I just tried to post a long detailed response & it got lost in cyberspace............

In short, I bought a Herbert and an Einstein at the same time last year. The Einstein has been my main rig for the last twelve months three to four nights a week. I played the Herbert for the first time "live" last Monday at an outdoor gig & was left wanting for my Einstein rig.

The Herbert is more aggresive, too powerful for my applications, and a bit sterile sounding in comparison to the Einstein. This, of course, is all subjective to my taste's, I just figured I'd throw my .02 of real-life experience into the ring for you.

The only reason I don't sell the Herbert is in case my musical direction changes in the future. Right now, it's Country & Classic Rock. If I'm ever in a musical situation to play Heavier Rock or Metal I wan't to have the "Best", and I believe the Herbert is just that for the genre!

My advice is to play one. A lot. Before purchasing!

Thanks....yeah. I'm afraid of that Herbert power wise...too much for me too, as I am nearly in the same genre as you.

Get a vibroverb or a Deluxe reverb (Vintage) nothing better for cleans. The Shiva would be my third choice but get a 2x12 with 6l6's and reverb, you won't be dissapointed.

Wow, not sure that I'd agree with the "sterile" description. IMHO, the Herbert exudes tones (dark, tight, modern, cutting, classic) that are pretty much unattainable with any other head out there. However if you're not used to the 180W, then perhaps you've not experienced the power of the amp, which demands to be played loud   Definitely aggro and modern. All good!

Sterile may be a bad word, which is not what I intended. I just couldn't think of a word that means, "Less Warm & Woody" than?

That said, I think you hit it on the head with the wattage thing. I play in a trio & sing lead about 33.3% of the time so I can't have blaring guitar hitting me in the back of the head and drowning out my vocal monitor or the rest of the band. My Einstein is a 50 watt head, so I can turn it up to the "sweet-spot" without overkill on the stage volume.

I just want to clarify that I'm in no way dissing the Herbert at all. I've had it to the "sweet-spot" at home & the wife is gone & it sounds incredible! Unfortunately, the incredible decibel levels needed to achieve said "sweet-spot" are unuseable for me in my current musical situation. ;)

i agree, i dont really hear the sterile quality, and actually find vh 4 to be more on the hi fi (i hate saying sterile, sounds so wrong lol) side. different strokes for different folks though, herbie does like volume :D

I have a Shiva...and last I checked none of those suggested have midi.....hence the reason for my post.

My goal is to get rid of some amps and consolidate down to just three (Shiva & Einstein are untouchables.....) and add in a full midi head to take full advantage of my SBGL and not have to add additional components (and complexity) to my already heavy 6 space rack.

Looks like the VH4 is the head for me.....I happen to like Hi Fi.....I've found you can always darken, dirty or color it up with pedals if needed, but not the other way around.

BTW on the VH4s, can one side of it be used....or must both amps be in use at all times? Just thinking that the 50 watts would be great in some smaller applications.

Also, FYI...this is a good example of my style play 70% of the time:

You will NOT be disappointed with either the VH4 or the Herbert especially if you're playing the type of blues/jazz that Alan Scott's playing in the vid. ('course you NEED an Anderson   )

The VH4's Ch2 can be dialed in from "almost" pristine clean to a gritty-dirty/JTM45-ish tone (but with tighter lo-mids), depending how you push the back-end of the amp. While not as much headroom as the Herbert, the VH4 is definitely a versatile head, and one worthly of any style of music IMHO.

Just my onions, but it is funny when people see the Vh4S is lower in watts, but min loud as banana's. With my band or at home It is loud as shit. the loudest at home I ahve the volumes at like 9-10 oclock, and with my band yesterday I had em at 11 oclock and it was still very loud. Maybe it is the tubes?? Sorry Toob noob here. Also yes you can use just one side, just turn the volume all the way off for one side as Peter once told me. :)

Peter FYI package on the way this week to you!
