Which Diezel?

It's my dream over the next 6 months to own a Diezel...the question is which one to get. Initially I was looking at the VH4, but after hearing so many good things about the Herbert, I'm pretty undecided. I'd say I'm primarily a rock / metal player, but I want it to sound great all around.

Can you let me know which you'd choose first, why, and what's good / bad about each? I doubt there's much to criticize them for, but even something small I'd like to hear before paying so much $$$.

One more thing...how much should I pay for a used Diezel in good condition?

Thanks!

Each one, VH4 and Herbert, can do almost everything. Even the Einstein is extremely versatile. It is all a matter of taste. You will have to try them out yourself to find out which one you like best.

I'm gonna weigh in here before the Herbert guys get in here and shout me down, that you really have to try all, and I mean all, of the Diezels before you decide.

I think the Einstein fits me more than the Herbert or VH4 but I wouldn't know that if I hadn't played all 3.

It's all about taste and money

money you ask? well....yeah....The 50w Head Einstein is almost 1,000 euros less than the VH4 or Herbert. In my case I went with the Einstein 50w because of this. I'd love to own a VH4 (4 channels, midi) but I'm VERY VERY happy with the Einstein....it's got that Diezel sound all the way, and with Deusentrieb's footswitchable modes mod, I "almost" have a 4 channel amp.

so, if you got the money, go and try them all...and pick the one you like best. If you are tight, get the cheaper one you won't definitely regret it!

After thinking about it I've realized that I only need a 1x12 combo. It's pretty impractical to have a 180W Herbert for small gigs and recording purposes, for me at least.

Anyway, I think it's now between the Einstein and the Bogner EL34 Shiva. Any more thoughts? (I know, I'm on a Diezel forum....so what)

Thanks for the replies

IMO XTC is more worth spending the hard earned $$$ than Shiva. Shiva is not really a preferred amp for metal anyway.

Overall if you play metal often you will most likely chose the Einstein over XTC.

Yes, I agree, the Shiva is nowhere near the Herbert. The XTC is somewhere between the two. All have different voices.
My fav personally is the XTC, it's more classic rock, the Herbert is more modern and tighter, a very close second. The Shiva is the lowest gain of all mentioned. I can't comment on the Einstien but from the sound clips I've heard it sounds very close to the Herbert.

Yeah, I really like the XTC too. I mean, money isn't something I'm concerned about right now (finding money to eat though....). It's the size of the amp I don't want to deal with, or I'd definitely go for the Herbert. As of now, I'm leaning toward the Einstein.

Thanks for the replies!
