which do you prefer basswood w/maple top or basswood?

I know maple top would look better but tonally which do you prefer?

maple top makes bass little tighter and top end more sparkly. All basswood tend to be 'softer' soundwise.

With maple would be my preference.

All maple top basswood body Wolfgang’s I have played have all had a suppressed top end and all sounded dull. I much prefer maple and alder or just plain basswood or plain poplar, but never basswood with a maple top. Even EVH himself played models that were just basswood with no maple top.
