Which Modules For Me?

Jeff, i know i e-mailed about this, but i'd like to get other opinions here.

the MOD 50 has really caught my interest in terms of versatility.

however i'm having trouble deciding which modules would be right for me.

i'm looking for a nice fat clean tone, fender cleans.

classic rock rhythm tone that can cover cream, led zeppelin, ac/dc, etc

higher gain rhythm tone for the 80's hard rock stuff. steve vai, paul gilbert etc

i also want a lead tone that is sort of like joe bonamassa's and Gary Moore's

so that would be like a 4 channel amp.

channel 1, fender clean

channel 2, classic rock rhythm

channel 3, higher gain rhythm

channel 4, smooth lead tone like joe bonamassa and gary moore.

so if i could only choose 2 modules right now, which is the best to choose?

here are youtube examples of things i'm looking for.

Clean: https://youtube.com/watch?v=iSM3FL7zUdw https://youtube.com/watch?v=AratTMGrHaQ

Classic Rock Rhythm/lead: https://youtube.com/watch?v=UsuGeqsADDc https://youtube.com/watch?v=MhcVDNZO6F0

Heavier Gain Rhythm/Lead: https://youtube.com/watch?v=cyEdUajXBsI https://youtube.com/watch?v=jODEhkIm-aw

Main Lead Tone: https://youtube.com/watch?v=18FgnFVm5k0 https://youtube.com/watch?v=I2yHFbT63ug

also some questions for people who have the amp, can you set each channel at separate volumes?

for example lets say they are called Channel 1A and 1B and Channel 2A and 2B

can i make 1B louder then 1A?

how about 2B louder then 2A?

how about 2A louder then 1A?

etc....

is this possible? i need to know because there are many rhythm/lead situations that may pop up where i will need different types of lead sounds, or rhythm sounds.

also about the Randall module amps

what's the difference between the lower priced Randall module amps, and the higher priced Egnater ones? Aren't they similar? is it just a matter of the Egnater being built with better quality parts?

I think the only way to cover all those bases with two modules is to start with a combination of lower gain modules and boost/color them up with a pedal or two for your higher gain flavors. T/D and SL seems to be the logical starting point from my corner of the earth. You can't really get the same flexibility starting with a high gain module and then rolling the volume off. But, if you take the SL you have all that medium gain beauty and complexity - especially when the amp is cranked - to which you can sup' it up with something like an OCD or whatever gets you in your happy place.

Yep, that would work quite well. If you lean towards the heavier side I would recommend a B'man and the SL2. This will excel at tones 2,3 and 4, but give a little ground on the 1. That super clean Two Rock tone is a tall order if you want channel B (2) of the module to do AC/DC. The Bassman can do a really good Fender Clean though and with something goosing it a little like a Keeley Katana you could coax it into sparkle clean. John's idea is a good one too, because with the TD you will get the super clean. And then the SL with like an OCD or my favorite the Xotic BB Booster with take you up into that Gary Moore tone.

And yes, all 4 channels have independent volumes.

Good stuff guys and similar to what I am now researching.

John, how is that OCD? I use the BB Preamp. I thought about the SL, but the BMan, SL2 and BB seem to work OK....even rolling back gain or volume on the SL2!

In all honestly, the breakdown you outline basically describes the 4212. That's pretty much how the order of the 4 channels on it goes.

Of course you can't swap out modules on it.
