Probably way too much gain on both (!!!),
but curious which tone you guys like better.
I hope the mp3 didn't kill the clip quality.

Mystery Amp #1

Mystery Amp #2

Sound like the same amp to me with different EQ settings. It's hard to tell since there's so much else going on.

I like #2 more. Seems to have a better response.

Thanks guys,

Clip 1 is the Bogner Fish brown channel -> Bogner 101B.
Clip 2 is the Bogner 101B red channel.

To me the Fish is tighter, but also maybe more closed sounding.
You can really hear the difference in the leads I think.
Overall tone though I think the power section has a lot to
do with it.

I'd like to find a rack power amp that reacts like the 101b for the fish.
I have the feeling the VHT stuff is going to be loads tighter.

Mentioned this in another thread, but from what I've heard, the 101b has a very similar - if not identical - power section as a 2203 Marshall.

Gotta say, thanks for posting that and reaffirming my choice in the 101b! Obviously some prefer the Fish, but it's cool to know I own the gear I do based on sound.

:D Bogners are great, so rich in tone. The 101B is a great amp. I also have a 100B which is my main amp but is heading down to Bogner for a tune-up. The 100B power section is tighter than the 101B, but the frequencies are very rich and dense. You can just hear the quality of that amp when you hit the 1st note. I love the blue chan on the 100B and the red on the 101B. The immediacy of the 100B is great for rythm, and the squish and bloom on the 101B is great for leads. I'm really hoping to try out the Anniversary and find it sort of in the middle of the two.

I think you can get somewhat close to the 100B blue sound on the 101B if you do medium excursion and maybe use B1 to tighten it up. I'll be messing with that more tonight.

Running the Fish into the 101B was also similar to the 100B vibe, so I'm considering running an audio switcher and using the Fish with the 101B and toggling between the preamps. The clean channel on the Fish was absolutely outstanding into the 101B. A lot better than the 101B clean IMHO.

I'll try to do a few more takes with lower gain over the weekend. In the room, the sound difference is a bit more drastic than in the mix. I need to lower the gain and play with mic positioning.

why not a marshall power amp? maybe the 9100 or the 9200...they sound amazing and since bogner is somewhat brit inspired you may find yourself pretty satisfied
