I read that V7 is 12AT7. Maybe I made a mistake, but when I removed my Einstein preamp tubes, I labeled my 12At7 as #6. Looking at the circuit traces it isn't clear that this plays a specific role with reverb.
Also, I saw this from Peter:
"On all amps we use 12AX7A-C tubes except V1.
This is an E83CC-Cz highgrade type.
V7 on the Einstein combo is 12AT7-C."
I am looking to replace all Einstein tubes. I was going to get the Tung Sol new editions (12AX7), but what does above statement imply about V1?
Meant to say I have 1x12 combo amp. Also, my TAD 7025 is labeled 3. I think there is the possibilit that at one time I removed the tubes and put them back in in wrong order... But the amp did sound amazing regardless.
One last thought - Peter said he discards 30-50% of the tubes he tries because of bad sound. What does that imply for buying new preamp tubes? Should I be wary of quality? Man this is complicated. I just want to play my amps again...
Peter - can you recommend a Diezel tech in Boston, MA area?
thanks,
brian
