Forget all those Les Pauls and Strats. Let's sing the praises of the Tele!

For me I'd say:

Bruce Springsteen
Chrissie Hynde
Jeff Beck (sometimes)
James Burton

What do you think guys?

:D  :scared:

Danny Gatton,the chicken-pickers ( Johnny Hiland etc.),J.Donahue.In Rock music:J.Page ;) ,K.Richards etc.. :)

Another vote for Brad Paisley! . . . first name that came to mind when I saw the thread title.

Brad Paisley is a good one- I meant to add Keith Richards in my original list. Funny, a lot of them seem to be rhythym players. Maybe something about that simple Tele thing.

I have a presecription from my doctor for one Fender Telecaster, for relief of the blues as necessary, and my wife of all people refuses to honor it! :D   :aww: :scared:   :gethim:

When did Page use a Tele? Thought he was an LP guy...

In the early days . . . I believe he used one on Zeppelin I and/or Zeppelin II.

Roy Buchanan without a doubt, Albert Collins and Muddy Waters too.

Come to think of it, I think Page DID use a Tele on the first Zep LP. DEFINITELY Muddy Waters!

I know I'm leavin out a bunch but there's a good start.

Steve Cropper and Andy Summers. Definitely! Forgot about those two. I would give ANYTHING to play like Steve Cropper. Weird- none of these guys is big "lead" players. You guys think that has anything to do with the design of the Tele? I am thinking maybe it does.

When you say "design" I think playability but it's more the sound of a tele; the tele "lead" players tend to be chick'n pickers like Danny Gatton RIP who was a shredder of a different kind.

I'm not so sure "design" isn't correct. Two single coils, nothing fancy. The lack of sustain probably does lend itself to chicken pickin'. You just pick it up and bang on it. A good guitar for acoustic strummers to transition to electric on.
