I was thinking of getting an Echoplex style preamp on my board to boost and fatten. What are you guys using?

I usually keep it between 9oclock and 11oclock...then into a OD808...
I love my "fake" tones. The EP totally thickens and fattens my "fake" tones.

He's talking about the EP-type FET boost pedals (unless you are too; sounds like you're referring to the echo tho).Stradazone":3kwtqoy6 said:I like the Dunlop Echoplex pedal, I have a real Ep-3 Echoplex to compare it to and it's close enough for me!

I gotta do some research and see if it can be run at higher voltages. The Dunlop Echoplex Preamp pedal seems like a good candidate itself, although I was leaning towards the EP Booster for it's size. Anyone run those at higher voltages?
The tolerance for the TIS58 was all over the place and even real EP's don't all sound the same. You can get a more consistent tone out of newer transistors. If you get an old unit of happen to procure a new build with old parts, it going to be a crap shoot what you end up with.lll":136m42ox said:~Abstract~":136m42ox said:I'm running one of those "fake" Xotic EP Boosters at 18v.

I had one of those. Good pedal, but not a true EP preamp.
If it doesn't have a NOS TIS58 running @ ~24V, then it's a fake EP preamp (or in other words, inaccurate to the original circuit)

Yes I'm talking about the Dunlop Echoplex Preamp pedal not the echo oneBronco":o1c1s86p said:He's talking about the EP-type FET boost pedals (unless you are too; sounds like you're referring to the echo tho).Stradazone":o1c1s86p said:I like the Dunlop Echoplex pedal, I have a real Ep-3 Echoplex to compare it to and it's close enough for me!
To OP, I've had the Dunlop EP boost and the Xotic -- you can't go wrong with either.

Exactly, and should since the TIS58 is *the* component used in the original EPs.
And the Badgerplex guy's craftsmanship is like a work of art on the inside.
Damn Dave. You have all of the cool shit!psychodave":32slv6zu said:lll":32slv6zu said:psychodave":32slv6zu said:I’ve tried them all, Dunlop, Clinch, Chase and based on owning several exhoplexes, the Badgerplex is the closest to my real EP3.

Yes, mine is built like a tank. Robert (owner) is a super nice guy. My pedal was one of the first echoplex pedals sold and I bought it used a long time ago and he sent me parts to upgrade it along with different TIS58's. I've found that the badgerplex pedal compresses just like a real echoplex and of course add that special sound. That said, the other pedals I mentioned above did sound good for what they do and are awesome in their own right, but I didn't want another "pedal" to stick out in front of my amp, I wanted something that was as close as possible to my real echoplex.

I just picked up the MXR Booster Mini this morning. Will be trying it out tonight running into the new DSL100HR. Will let you know what I think.
