New member here...Rebel 20 owner for newarly the past year...took a while to find you all...

Now...for my question...what are you using to push it and why?

Currently, I am using a SD Pickup Booster...it can add up to 25dB of gain...but I think I'm looking for something else. I am trying to create some harmonic overtones...you know, the ones that jump out of a sustained note? Yeah, those...

So, I'm curious to know what you are using and what kinds of tones you're getting out of the Rebel.

Thanks,

Erik

Hey Erik, welcome to the club man!!!I don't own a rebel anymore but I'm still up to my ass in Eggie and don't own a boost/dirt box

I've tried two things, an OCD which was amazing but I had to sell it to pay bills. Major boo-hoo. Worked really well for me playing classic rock/hard rock stuff. Kept the gain on the rebel dialed back at about 11 o clock and would push push it with the OCD and it worked great and was super responsive to picking attack. I find the rebel to be pretty dynamic in terms of how soft or hard I play as long as I keep the gain reigned in but the OCD really made it even more sensitive. Currently, I'm using a PODxt for FX only running through the loop but when I need a little push I'll dial in a clean eq boost on the POD which works pretty good for the stuff I play. Obviously prefer the OCD though.

Hey Erik,

For what you want, you pretty much can't lose with an Xotic BB or a Fulltone OCD V4.

Both are excellent pedals that provide a wide variety of gain, and stack very well with other dirt boxes. Both pedals sound great on their own, or into driven amps.

I've had a rebel 20 for about a year. I tend to set it up with the master maxed, gain around 10 or 11 (on the verge of breaking up, nice and chimey). I then use a Xotic BB+ for a couple different flavors of boosted rhythms and a keeley TS-9 for boosted leads. Both the BB+ and TS-9 are pretty transparent and are set up as volume boosts with very little gain. I stack the boosts for greater saturation. It really gives me a ton of flexibility with a single channel amp, and I love the tones I'm getting out of it. That said, I'll probably get an E2 when it comes out. I really like having a low wattage amp, but am GASing for the modular stuff. With the E2, its likely that one or both of these boosts will become unnecessary and the limited real estate on my pedal board will go to something else.

Wow, I haven't thought about it but I have had my Rebel 20 for a year as well. I play heavier stuff (Alter Bridge, Dream Theater, etc) so I max the gain on my Rebel and push the front with an Xotic BB. I set the Xotic gain at about 11:00. With the BB it adds a richness and warmth that I feel is missing otherwise and gives it that little extra something without changing the amps underlying tone. My little 1x12 cab with a K-100 sounds HUGE!

I have also been waiting for the E2. In fact, I bought my Rebel with plans of adding the E2 but the release date kept getting pushed back until I finally quit gassing over it. Seems the E2 is finally on the near horizon so I hope it actually becomes available early next year (goodbye tax refund check) but I'm not holding my breath any longer. I love my little Rebel setup but I'm dying to start rocking the Egnater modules. I don't see myself getting rid of the BB. It is a wonderful little gain box.

I use a TS808. Gain almost off, level on full and tone halfway. It's absolutely wonderful.

I push it with either a Boss SD-1 or a Tube Screamer both modded by Keeley but never both at the same time. I only push it a little to add the edge for pinch harmonics, etc. Works great.

I have an EMG PA-2 in my main guitar, set to a 3db boost (just a pinch), and it drives my Rebel 20 (which I am also amazed to realize I've had for a year) very nicely. Just a little more "fatness," a little stubble on the signal, nothing major... just enough to get it singing a bit more.

Hello
I use both a Turbo Tube Screamer and a BBE Boosta Grande next to each other on my board. The TTS is set with no gain, output and tone controls dimed. The BBE is set around 3 o'clock. When used seperately, each pedal has something to offer, The BBE boosts the low end and the TTS boosts the mid/highs as any good Tube Screamer would. When used together I get a wonderful saturated tone that still retains string definition. I read SRV used two Tube Screamers, one to juice the other (according to the article). I also have a Boss EQ that I have used in place of the BBE and that offered even more flexability. This thread is showing how we each come up with our "own recipe" and the different suggestions make me want to go and buy more toys!  Welcome to the Forum.
