Why are many Ibanez basses some shade of dining room furniture brown stain?

You want this bass you have a choice, as long as it's a shade of shit-brown.

Really the only option out there, unless I want to spend 3x more. This is an older model that has neck thru, no confusing fret lines and markers on the top vs newer model that's semi-chambered with a bolt on neck. Both are yet another shade of dining room brown stain.

These are the only 4-string fretless models that have magnetic pickups and piezo bridge.

And they're only available in brown.

The older model bass I'm getting, in shit-brownburst:

I found a good deal on a new old model. If I like it, I'll probably refin the body top and headstock top; and ebonize the fretboard.

Many Ibanez basses are some shade of shit-brown; some are only offered in shit-brown. At least Ibanez is making unlined fretless with magnetic pickups and piezo, few are until you get to higher cost makers.
 
I like the shit brown burst tbh.

But neither of those are P-Basses. I only like P-Basses and Music Man Stingrays. Nothing sits in the mix as well as those.

For blues and R&B a P-bass fits the bill for sure. With flats. Other genres not so much. And a P bass neck is like a baseball bat sawed in half longways.
 
Probably the same reason that for like an entire decade you could only get 90% of their new guitars in black or possibly gunmetal grey


I think those basses look good personally (even though I think fretless bass mostly sounds like shit)

I like the natural brown look, especially with the blank plank. A Piezo in it is a win!

FWIW, shades of brown, and dining room furniture stains and bursts are my least favorite finish. I prefer solid, metallic or flake finishes: snow/alpine white, purple, black, blue and some reds depending on the shade and instruments.

The only exception are my Rics (330 and 4003) which are both Fireglo. Just looks right, and good, on Rics to me.
