Channel 2 smokes! I like it with the gain pretty low. It is such a cool sound! Props to Peter. What's not to like?

I love the Ch2! Especially with single coils or humbuckers with coils split.
However, I like my gain on Ch2 at around 1 o'clock and guitar volume rolled off a bit.

I love that channel too, it just does not sustain enough for me. But the tone is awesome.

The sustain depends on your guitar an fingers... I think ;)

I am not a great guitar player, but I have no issues with sustain on the other channels, or most other amps I own. I really think my fingers are ok, I have been playing for a long time now. I do agree about the guitar/pickups and sustain. I use channel 2 a lot when I play live, but even at loud volumes the sound just seems to fade rapidly on that channel. I have kicked on a tube screamer and it helped a lot but I did not care for the sound too much. I have heard that the newer model VH4 has a little more balls on channel 2 but I have not played one.
I still dig channel 2!

Lets not forget that the amount of compression the channel has directly affects sustain, is channel two less compressed than the others? if so there's your answer in regards to SMDBs post.

The problem that the volume-decay is too fast can be solved with a compressor. I had the same "feeling" on cleans sometimes. A Dynacomp helped me solving the problem.

I was not the biggest fan of this channel at the beginning, but now i've re-discovered it. Turn the gain to 3+ with the bright control turned on, and it's AWESOME!!!!

Because, Billy, some people have no taste.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Perfect.

As for the fingers and the playing and the age of the amp, granted, I play a newer model VH4S... I also have to admit to laying down a little delay with both Channel 1 and 2, simply to fatten them up, and ya, it actually does assist in the sustain and decay departments. So don't think I was hammering on ya for your technique - we all have our playing styles and nuances. Personally though, I've found that Channel 2 with my neck pups (typically the Lesters) sounds so rich and long in sustain, I don't often need the delay... But when things get slapped and choppy with the bridge, this is where I notice the FX assist...

Keep on, Braddah...

I use channel 2 a lot. It works well for verses when I want my guitar to drop back under my vocals. That way when I kick in channel 3 on the heavy parts it rocks people's balls off!

Channel 2 freakin rocks on that amp! Some people's kids.

Which 2nd channel? I heard the new VH4's sound different on the 2nd channel.

A lot more gain and different treble frequencies on the newer models 2nd channel.

My amp is a 2001....and channel 2 sounds PERFECT for what it does.
Nice a spanky tones on this channel.
Pretty much everything from slightly dirty up to AC/DC land.
Thats when Channel 3 kicks in.

channel 2 is like the quiet little shy girl in school...crank her up & magic happens

To me it's like a JTM 45 on crack !!!

My 2007+ settings.

Gain- 1:30 for crunch - Full On for 800 territory.
Treble- 10:00
Mid's- 11:30
Bass- 1:00
Presence- 11:00
Deep- 10:00

With the Gain at 1:30 and 30dB (Full Up) of clean boost and EQ flat, ala BB Preamp you get a less compressed
version of Ch. 3.
