His sound from the "Have A Nice Day" era was so awesome..............

I can't figure why he's downgraded since then?

THEN

& now..............

I dont know man! He´s now playing a shit load of DSL´s again.

Hi! Because Richie is a amp junky! He often uses different amps and also guitars like other man have different women or cars!
I think he often gets the amps for just sponsering the builder like other great guitarist do.
Also i think he has great technics which modifie the amps for his sound.
I dont believe he plays a stock DSL. You never know what is inside.

So long Rolf

People's taste changes sometimes. Can't do anything about that. Some people are more fickle than others.

Doesn't mind or bug me whoever uses or doesn't use my preferred choice of amps... My preferences and sonic solutions aren't based on fanboism for famous players. Quite honestly, never thought much of BJ and his tunes - very catchy, very radio friendly...whatever.

It is what it is... So long as your tone speaks to you personally? You're set.

Peace Y'All,
V.

For what it's worth, the "tone" in both of those videos is just awful to me... Both are fizzy and thin.

It's called Pop = popular culture.
HNY. What up V.? :D

haha I didn't know Richie was using Diezel, but now that I do, it kinda makes me sad he switched :(

I´ve got some dvd´s where he is playing two Herbert´s and believe me, it doesnt sound fizzy and thin. It really sound like my Amp.
Same story as i watched Rock am Ring at MTV with the Smashing Pumpkins. As i switched to it i first didnt look at the screen but i thought:"this sounds like a Herbert?!" and it was one!!!

FWIW, my daughter, her cheerleader friend, and wife wanted to go see Bon Jersey and Goo Goo Dolls. So I took them, of course. Bon Jovi played very well. Sound in Raleigh was great, they played like sober professionals. I am not a big time fan of theirs but as a musician and someone that appreciates how hard it is to get great live tone, I thought they did a kick ass excellent job. I don't think the 90% female crowd that was there could give a shit less about what amp or guitar was being played.

I wonder how he used to set up his herbies. I remember seeing a pic and article about them. One was just the stand by amp. The pic showed him using channel 3 but the gain was really low. I take it he must have used a pedal as his overdrive just driving the slightly overdriven amp. If that was what he did I wonder why he used channel 3 and not the minus side of channel 2

Only ch3 everey time, every day?!?!?!?

This was the Diezel era.

To my ear, the DSL is way fizzier than the Herbert will ever be. Guys- like Richie- from that generation are very fickle because they come from a different "school of Rock" if you will.

You also have to remember that when bands do live performances for TV, quite often, the live mix is very dry and toned-down for the masses (anyone ever seen Metallica's Grammy performances back in '92 and '93? The guitars were barely present and really thin because the producers call the shots- not the bands- and not the sound crews). You need to get some actual "live-in-concert" videos of both tones and post them to give them a fair shot.
