quite a few post on Les Paul Fourm saying this is the case, as much as $100 off

So you can use the money saved to replace the transformer when it blows?

Might be stopping distribution or preparing for a new line.

probably gave them too much of a headache with the returns/repairs

Probably trying to move everything before the bankruptcy filing.

Last time I was in the GC here in Knoxville, TN thet had very few Egnater amps, and did not
talk like they would be getting any more. But, they had their Boogie gear discounted as well.

Regards,

Scott

I wonder if it is related to gc financial problems. Mesa dumped gc, not the other way around. I wonder if it is the same thing here.

Really?

I saw a purported letter from a GC exec that said something to the effect that GC was not going to continue to stock the minimum required amount of Mesa gear in order to be "allowed" to sell Mesa gear. It seemed that Mesa had an unreasonable amount of minimum required stock for a brand that didn't sell that well - probably due to the prices - so GC decided to end the relationship. Mesa makes great amps (worth the price IMO), but let's face it, they don't exactly sell like hotcakes when the prices are so high as compared to many more brands that are much more affordable to the average GC customer.

I cant speak to the Egnater relationship with GC, Bruce can if he wishes to disclose. I did speak with Mesa and their gripe with GC is the poor sale support. Mesa products are high end, and the salespeople have to know how to demonstrate their use to justify the cost of the product...GC just isnt in that league. Also, they would sell amps that were not maintained, and it reflected poorly on the Mesa reputation. Mesa amps are not amps to be sold to the bedroom player or 15 year old learning guitar...they are for musicians who seek a professional gigging amp. Also, they are not dialed in like a Marshall or Fender...there is a learning curve.

Somewhere I saw a statement from Mesa that was to this effect. I have to agree. I have certainly found some good people working at GC, but many of them cannot help a high end customer like me. I might buy an amp or guitar for 2 grand or more, but it isn't going to be often, it has to be top quality and not the latest flashy piece of junk, and the salespeople have to really know what they are doing. GC unfortunately does not always pass that test. They are too big basically.

If GC goes down, I wonder what happens to someone like Fender who has had their own financial problems, and is heavily invested in GC? A lot of companies have their eggs in that particular basket. Mesa was smart to get out. If I want a Mesa amp I am willing to travel a bit to buy it from a place that meets their standards.
