Why is the EVH cab sooo cheap?

Because most people don't want a 4x12 cabinet. "Collectors" piss themselves over vintage Marshall 4x12's... Why? They just gotta have it!

I had to order it. The speakers alone would be more than the cab. I have always had high quality birch cabs. Be interesting to try mdf. Supposed to be tonally superior for cabs, just not durable. I don't gig, so no big deal.

What model Celestions are in it? Sounds like something new made for the iconic series?

It does not seem to the the G12EVH speaker. They are careful to call it a 12" EVH Celestion Custom, and it seems to be 40 watts per speaker, which I take to mean a different and much cheaper speaker than the G12EVH.

Might still sound great though. But that speaker and the MDF is probably the reason for the price.

Ampeg through the '90s used OSB for cabs (not MDF, but a somewhat similar composite), and Vox has been making most stuff out of MDF for a while. Their cabs seem to be holding up just fine.

lol. you are correct. Well, I bought the thing. We will see how good or shit the speakers are.

i am assuming it is the evh branded greenbacks
You'd be wrong. From the ground up, it screams cheap. MDF, Chinese speakers, and Chinese built. My guess is, you'll get what you pay for.

The whole "Iconic" thing is a marketing gimmick. WHY would you compete with yourself? It's entry-level gear, plain and simple. If it comes out, and is really that wonderful, sales on the other 5150 III's would plummet, and they'd shoot themselves in the foot. There's not a shred of interest in owning any of these, from me. And, I have a hard time believing this was EVH's dying wish. Build cheap shit in China.

Those Ampeg cabs are horrific. They were the $299 special at GC back in the day. Too many times went to demo a head and that was all that was there. Wouldn’t even bother turning the amp on..lol

Cause it made out of MDF with some chinese celestions....

Bingo!

Probably something similar to the Marshall MX412BR

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...240-watt-4x12-inch-straight-extension-cabinet
Which comes with G12E-60 speakers.

Yeah, I suspect the guitar cabs were horrible. I was thinking of the bass cabs, which no one likes at all (even the speakers from those years suck), but they are still very very plentiful out there because for the longest time, that's just what you had to use.

You get what you pay for. Those cabs will be garbage.

LOL you fell for the trap before we could warn you. It’s tough though, with such boner inducing descriptive terms like “sonic eruptions of massive power” and “truck loads of thundering searing clarity of scorching hot articulation” I can understand where you missed “custom designed” which really means “left over surplus of bullshit we will rename to sound like something legit hoping people fall for it”. Hopefully it sounds good though

lol. Yeah. So I was looking at the add. I was really trying to find the trick. I posted it here cuz i knew you guys could save me from myself. You know how these things go. We get excited. I am just glad everyone has so much enthusiasm for this ripoff. Man, Sweetwater emails me a lot. I just saw that price and I was like you say....BONER!

Years ago, Ferrari released a model called the California. It was priced for quite a bit less than other Ferraris, and was much less performative. However, what you got was still a convertible with a Ferrari badge on the front. Why did Ferrari release this car when it was obviously nowhere near as good as their other models? Simple. They needed funding to support the R&D to build their next supercar, which was fantastic if I recall.

I wonder if the 5150 Iconic is EVH’s Ferrari California.
