Could someone please expand on why GK100 don't fair well in rear loaded cabs. It's pretty common knowledge around here that both Peters don't like them in RL cabs, but I've never heard an explanation as to why. Is it just a matter of personal taste or is it some inherent issue like being too boomy for a RL cab etc.? I'm about to purchase some speakers for a rear loaded cab (either GK100s or V30 x G12T75) and these have me very interested, but I want to make sure I'm making the right choice. Any input would be appreciated.

Probably just don't sound amazing. I'd go with the V30 x G12T-75s.

i have two rear loaded cabs with g12k 100s

both sound amazing to me.

much better than v30 or the 75s that i tried in them before.

Afaik the G12K100 tends to have phasing issues when used in rearloaded cabs.

That doesn't make sense as Kerry King uses the G12K100 in his rearloaded Marshall 4X12 cabs???

I'm using g12k100 in an old rearloaded cab and very statisfied! ;)

I just got to play my Herbert and VH4 through a rear-loaded Stone Age 412 cab with all gk100s. I liked it alot. Much more than my all v30 rear-loaded diezel 412. Especially with the Herbert.

That makes absolutely no sense. There's many satisfied Orange 4x12 owners with those same (stock) speakers.

thats what i just thought too - Orange makes some awesome cabs, and altough i've only played one once with V30s, they also come with G12K100s-loaded, and they are rearloaded.

That is just what I heard. I have only tried a frontloaded G12K100 and like that a lot but have never tried a rearloaded G12K100.

It tends to not sound nearly as dynamic in a rear loaded cabinet. Orange cabs are a primary example.......dark and stiff with a muffled effect.

Even though our cabs are designed nothing like any other cabinet out there, we still prefer the sound of g12k's in front loaded cabs for their response, attack, clarity, neutrality and overall punch. It simply sets well in the tonal spectrum in a front loaded cab.
